Now that the format war won....

Are those who are genuinely miffed gonna come out and admit it ? - I dont think so. I'm not saying this in fanboy kind of way or getting at 360 owners at all - I just think it is human nature to try and not lose face.

I bought my PS3 mainly on the back of blu-ray & HD to feed my new HDTV. So basically I built a new front room 5.1 entertainment system around the PS3. It has since caused me to abandon PC gaming and as a result I now regularly play console games for the first time in my life.

Now, there MUST be 360 owners who had done a similar thing to me and who had also invested in HDDVD hardware that are now feeling just a little bit of regret - but asking them to admit it here is another matter entirely.

Its not just the 360 owners with the HD drive though is it - its all those who bought an HD DVD player..

**** happens though - just one of those things really..

I never had any intention of buying the add on personally and wont be buying a PS3 ever I wouldn't have thought - was far too expensive when I was wanting a console.

If I want Blu Ray ill buy a player when they get cheaper in a year or so.

Full star your swearing!

Anyone else who recently purchased a 360 wish they had bought a PS3?

Have been catching myself looking at prices on Blu-ray players, and thinking "might as well buy a PS3". But I just bought a flippin 360, and just can't justify having two consoles...

The Blu-ray capabilities of the PS3 did not phase me in the least, because I was not interested in HD til the format war was won. Just wasn't expecting it to end so soon.

Sigh.

So now because BD has won you are suddenly interested in a media useage you didn't care about before?

So why did you buy a 360.

If you really want and need BD then the Ps3 is now at such a decent price that it's worth it.

I'd been holding out until the 'war' was decided so I've no money invested but if I'm honest I'm a tad miffed as it's mucked up any plans for me to go HD for movies anytime soon.

As a value proposition the PS3 can't be rivalled any more to a new buyer but the 360 still has the games I want to play as a rpg fan (Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Fable 2, Project Offset). Owning both is not an option and there's no decent cheap blu-ray option so I'm stuck with DVD for probably a year or so yet.

Sony and MS are not daft though and like Sony sticking Vista on their laptops and MS having Sony BMG music in their Zune store (and on Xbox Live!) they'll realise that there's a potential huge market for collaboration.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a Toshiba manufactured Blu-Ray 360 add-on announced very quickly. (It'll use the same case.)

I also know it's probably too late but I would love to see the BRA adopt the MS/Disney HDi tech.

Why are you trying to make it PS3 against Xbox360.
It's not. It's Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD.

HD was of no interest to me until such time as the format battle was won.

The 360 does have better catalogue of games and was cheaper which swayed me in that direction initially

However, were I to be buying a console now, the blu-ray capabilities of the PS3 would actually appeal now that blu-ray is the winning format. Slightly more expensive, but with the option to play HD movies.

I do love my 360 though :)

how much are blu ray players?

surely they will be as cheap as chips soon - IF companies want joe smoe, to buy BR disc movie releases on mass?

"The site also says that Microsoft is working on a built-in Blu-ray player too, but the console maker sees the HD format battle moving online."

It won't in Belgium where you can't get unlimited bandwith. The most you can have is 35GB per month, (at a premium price)

So I'll be waiting for Blu-Ray but a mate has PS3 and 32" sammy and for me Blu-Ray = DVD in terms of quality unless you are sitting a rulers length away from the screen. :p

No way, you can tell the difference from HD to normal DVDs anywhere your sat.

Not a chance, I love my 360 and wouldn't ever get rid of it. As billions and billions of people have said before me, the games on the PS3 are crap - the games on the 360 are awesome - simple as. I may get a PS3 purely for bluray but Im never playing games on it

, lol

glad i have BOTH ;)

seems over 10million other PS3 owners are also - not bad for a console that some think has **** games :p

I want to play games not fold@home.

Oh dear, lots of hurt feelings in this thread!

Your statement makes about as much sense as me saying "I want to play games, not send my b0rked machine off to Microshat to be repaired after five minutes of play" :p

Incidentally, I bought a ps3 for both the games side and the home entertainment side, and it has more than suited me for both. My housemate has a 360 hooked up to the tv as well, but it rarely gets turned on now thanks to the ps3 playing dvd's/bluerays/games.

By the way, what's fold@home?

You've assumed that it was my intention to turn this into a PS3 vs 360 thing. Wrong - you dont know my intentions, you also misinterpereted my post - others took it in the way it was meant - why not you ?

You've also misinterpereted the OP who is talking about 360 owners who now wished maybe that they'd bought a PS3 instead now that the format war has ended.

My post is bang on relevent thank you.

Just my opinion! :) Im not very experimental with games and there are none on the PS3 that look remotely interesting to me... but obviously everyone likes different things. I was just responding to the OP saying Im not gutted that I didnt buy a PS3, I love my xbox and no way would I want a PS3 over it.

How much money does Sony make from the sale of a blu-ray disc?

Compare that to how much a game makes and then you will see what is important to a console.
