Nuclear attack

"These planes will then not be available for evacuation purposes, nor will they be available to air-drop food, water, morphine and cyanide, all of which will be in great demand throughout the area."

I don't understand why cyanide is needed in the event of an explosion?

Some forms can be used as an antidote to Caesium-137 poisoning apparantly which will come in rather handy, Wikipedia link. Either that or they're just offering DIY euthanasia options.

I believe its possible we could have a Nuclear war in the future, the problem is with politicians they have no idea the power they have, even a small Nuclear exchange 100 or more could block out the sun for 4 years or more, imagine 100 city's burning, the billions of tons ash and smoke released into the atmosphere. If a full scale war happened the only people on the planet to survive would be those in mountain bunkers with supplies for the rest of their lives, even if your Country doesn't get hit you would not survive it. Got to love the insanity of the Human race.

I watched Threads the other week for the first time in years. Damn, that film hasn't got any less disturbing all these years on. Not only does it graphically show the immediate effects of a nuclear attack on the UK, but it also shows how the country and it's remaining people would be screwed generations later.

Not a nice film, but it's a film I think everybody needs to see at least once.

Very eye opening film, that.

What was that animated film called about the elderly couple who 'survived' a nuclear blast?

That was quite heart breaking. :(

So countries in south america and africa, would they be bombed? Surely they would be much better off?

No, the resulting global-wide nuclear winter would mean little to no food production for years. People who don't die due to radation etc will die of starvation. Even in countries not hit by nuclear weapons.

When The Wind Blows by Raymond Briggs. That film genuinely makes me shed a tear :(

*guide to armageddon.*

Looking at that it makes you wonder just how crazy it would have been if the Soviets put the Tzar Bomba into production.

That was in 1961. Even though they are mostly ICBM now. I dread to think what the russians and americans have lurking away in their secret bases.
