i've tried looking into this and it does seem a lot of people clame to have it.

I really have difficultly with writing down numbers in the write order when read out to me, i always have to read them back a few didgits at a time. and i am shockingly bad with maths of any kind. (el_dazza will back that up)

just wondered if anyone else has problems like this? or if it is just me being think??

Dyscalculia - I don't suffer from it personally, Cousin does, if you ask him to do maths in his head he can't do it i.e. ask him 20% of £502,000, with a piece of paper he's fine.

Anthea Turner showed she had it on GMTV a good few years ago too iirc when they were doing a numbers game.

Most people who say they have don’t. People just use it as an excuse to be lazy and write badly or not do maths.

Instead of self diagnosing yourself go to a dyslexia centre and take some tests. If you do have it they will give you help and teach your tricks to get around it.

im not saying that i have it, just think i do lol

i mean im not lazy when it comes to it, i play darts so need to use maths, but i struggle so much with it its crazy!

Yeah, I think I have it. I've always had trouble with numbers. Especially writing them down etc.

I didn't know there was test or anything for it. I thought I made it up! :p

i get that, i think ive trained myself out of it, i used to read bus numbers backwards and reg plates numbers would allways come before the letters and what not so, a123 abc would be 123a abc or even 321a abc

I have Dyscalculia it is very hard for me to deal with numbers. If you read me a long string of numbers out I will write them back to front or in the wrong order.

It is worth getting this checked out mate, if you feel it is bad enough and holding you back.

thanks for the link.

i've worked through that just waiting for the email now.

it might explain why some of my posts are so shocking lol

Speaking as someone who is dyslexic (I was diagnosed when I was in primary school). The first thing you will realise about a true dyslexic person is that they do not advertise the fact that they are dyslexic, they often as not hide or have worked around their issue(s). Often as not those (not saying everyone) shouting about having dyslexia or similar don't have it and are just too lazy to learn or simply can't/won't do the problem area.

Now on a personal level if I tell someone I'm dyslexic people are shocked, they don't believe me and the main reason for it is I don't advertise the fact that I am, I never used the 'extra' time or help that was available to me while at uni or school. My view was (and still is) simple, I wouldn't get this help in the real world so why have it now, this often made me think about my maths in a different ways, I often couldn't get my head around the topic if the teacher was teaching me, but give me a book and somewhere to write and I can normally work out the technique and that worked for me (and was acceptable for tests).
I got an A at gcse and was basically self taught from a book in the end.
When I did my A-levels I screwed up and got crap grades, looking back on it I now feel it was due to the fact everything was via teachers who to be perfectly blunt were useless at explaining things in relation to the exams we would take. I knew the info (my degree proved that) but due to the methods used to teach I didn't get it right in the exams, and trust me I worked my ass off to try and get to grips with it.

Now to the op, if you feel that you have dyslexia (or any of the other variations) go see the doctor, they shouldn't laugh at you or anything, they should be able to give you an idea if you have an issue and if necessary refer you to a specialist, often as not anyone over about the age of 30 (and sometimes younger) got missed due to the lack of info about it. I'm now 28 and I was lucky I got caught, back when I was younger it wasn't recognised like it is today, there were no certificates either like there are now.

PS sorry for long post.

I sometimes struggle reading and writing numbers down. It's why I always put long numbers down in groups of 3, such as 123 456 789, etc. Otherwise I will put the number down in the wrong order (like 124356879). I find it really really hard to read long numbers and to copy/memorize them.
