Nurishment

But didn't you say something along the lines of lighter boxers being able to beat, or give heavier fighters a run for their money?

No, I said smaller wrestlers give heavier non-wrestlers a run for their money.

If weight / muscle mass is the factor being compared, wouldn't it be better to compare fighters within the same dicipline? Also what about a light karateka or a boxer vs a heavily built body builder with no martial arts training? While the bodybuilder may be able to lift more weight, he wouldn't have the skills required to match a lightweight boxer.

If you compare fighters in the same discipline then the larger, more robust fighter will have an advantage. There is a reason why competitive fighting has weight divisions.

A fighter v a non fighter is a bit of a daft comparison as then that depends on other variables like the innate fighting prowess of the non-fighter and the difference in size of each....and a bodybuilder isn't built for strength exactly, but appearence...if you compare a bodybuilder to a weightlifter, the weightlifter would in most cases be the stronger.

The factor being compared is muscle mass, and the assertion by me is that muscle mass is not a main factor in overall body strength / fitness, but rather training, agility and tendon strength. And the relevance to this thread being that protein shakes are not a requirement to attain strong physical fitness.

You stated that the bodies main strength comes, not from the muscles, but the tendons, and that is simply poppycock.....tendon strength (this is the strength of the tendon, not strength produced by the tendon) is important in the overall fitness of a person, but it is not the main factor in producing power in a person..that is the domain of the muscles. Tendons help transfer that power, they don't make it. Training and agility also are important, however if all those things being equal, the heavier guy has an advantage.

I honestly don't get why so many people are so easilly antagonised by this . Some people even seem to actually believe that physical fitness is impossible to obtain without protein supplements.

You think people are antagonised???????

I don't think anyone said that physical fitness is impossible without supplements either, only that supplements can be a more efficent way of gaining the protein while controlling calories....

Wow, is this still going? Thanks N19h7m4r3 for the linky.

I may have to drink a can of Nurishment as punishment for my OTness.

It won't be banana though, I bet those ones taste like the liquid antibiotic you used to be given as a kid, that stuff was more effective at making you blow chunks than sticking fingers down your neck.

Some nice morning imagery there.

This, over and over and over again. Money and convenience, that is all. Being able to control kcal intake of protein without the additional carbs/fats that come from standard foods is a big bonus for many too :)

So basically you just skip reading everysingle post in the thread except for mine. Why not kick of an argument that protein supplements are a convenience only with people who blatantly think otherwise?

Given my contribution to the thread you would think that it's obvious I haven't skip read most of the thread.

The majority of the pro-whey people in this thread post in SA and I know they do not believe that the only way to hit protein levels is whey, so I don't need to argue with them.

This thread has long been a joke, sadly.

I remember these being for sale all over Peckham Rye when i was yuthe...

I always associate them with Yardies and big pipe hitting black dudes...

yeah they were always rusty lol, the labels changed too...

All the Jamaicans I work with drink it, no idea why though it's rank!

I used to drink loads of these Nourishment cans pre-2003. I would always glance at the protein value on the label and go "NOM". Then one day I happened to read it all and looked at the 'Carb, which sugars' value. I ended up screaming like Carlton from Fresh Prince and never touched the stuff again. As a result my wee was never luminous yellow o/

I then moved onto whey powder post workouts and eating the right food whenever I could.

I find they make a suitable substitute for goats milk when bathing to maintain my silky smooth skin.
