Nvidia 3080 in a gaming laptop, news and updates?

I'm very excited about the new generation of graphics cards, particularly the Nvidia 3080 in desktop format which is an exciting performer!

The 2080 Super made it into laptops in maximum performance format, without Max Q. Will the 3080 also be a chipset offered by laptop vendors? I read speculation saying no. I'm not sure I agree. Can adequate thermal problems be balanced with that kind of power and new miniaturised architecture?

I'm hoping yes. The most powerful gaming laptops seem to be big chunky monkeys anyway. So I'm hoping it's just a matter of time. Who cares about battery life. I'd be grateful for a 5 minute battery so I could log on and say I bought one lmao. Its just the portability I need.

Im not in a huge rush to but a laptop and am happy to watch developments and happy to wait. Anyone else dead keen on the 3080 gaming laptop idea?

We will see the 3080 in a laptop I expect. They usually come a few months after the desktop launch. I expect around Q1 next year we should see some on the market. I’m going to replace my laptop so I’m waiting until they are released.

I read an article saying they had no idea how 320 watts would be handled by a laptop, and that maybe only a 3070 would be released in laptop version (I think). Hopefully there will be a 3080 variant. Without max q.

Are new laptops usually similarly priced, for example, would a 3080 laptop be launched (q1 next year) with a similar price to a 2080 super laptop of the same configuration in Q4 this year?

OwnOrDisown on YouTube reckon that based on performance per watt of the new 3000 series and based on the thermal limitations of laptops we would probably see around a 22% improvement with the 3000 series. Which is much less than desktop. This is because of the TDP limitation in laptops.

They won’t put it in desktop form into a laptop. It will be a mobile version. The 2080 super is 250w in desktop form and in mobile it is around 150w.

The rtx2080s none max q can have upto a 200watt card in some thicker laptops like a51m r2 and gt76 titan. Also think the arous 17x has a 200watt rtx2080 super. So yeah I would fully expect to see a rtx3080 in a laptop. They will probably be announced at CES in January then being available around March time.

At what cost I wonder. Im not sure if I want to wait as long as March, but, as Id like to keep what I buy for a while, and Im very much into high frame rates... Id be fairly happy to wait for the 3080 non max q version... all being well.

Id imagine 3k plus for these thicker desktop replacement laptops. I had wanted to replace my aging gt73 with a gtx1080 this year but held off. I'll wait for the rtx3080 cards instead. Hopefully we see the new cards in laptops early January and be able to pick them soon after CES. Heres hoping anyways

GN20-E7 will be available up to 150w for notebooks, a lower power Max-Q version (GN20-E6) will also be available. This is the notebook RTX 3080.

Starting to see a lot of rumours now. The specs of the 3080 mobile looks like it will be at 3070 desktop speeds. Expected announcement in January.

If anyone makes one first it will be Alienware and it want be a Max-Q version it will be there own version of the GPU or a 3070 and will be over £4,000. With an amazing bit of luck it may be an upgrade to my 2080 super in my Area 51 Laptop, well maybe

Been a few images of what appears to be a 8nm GA104 core on a laptop board but from what I've heard mobile chips will be 7nm based - but you will probably be waiting awhile yet.

the problem is, you could hold out for spring but then pay top dollar for a 3000 series laptop. Depends on your need. The current 2080 Super in Max-P with a 10th gen i9 are running you nearer £3k at present, if that’s your budget and you can wait then I’d go for 3000 series in the spring. Otherwise the HP Omen is a good one at the moment (just bought it) 2080 Super with Max-P (not the lesser Max-Q one) and a 10th gen i9 RRP £2500 but HP did me one for £2250 with a 3 year care pack thrown in too (£99)

There is a Omen with an i7 at 1600ish. I take it the i7 is useless?

Hopefully 2021 will be good year for laptops. I’m hoping for Zen3 CPU and RTX 30 series GPUs. There’s a good chance we will see 1440p High Refresh displays as well.
I tried a few laptops this year, MSI GE66 Raider, Lenovo Legion 7i, and Aorus 15G.
In the end I decided it was better to wait until next year and keep running my current desktop until then.

Max P, yes! The newly released tech is monstrously powerful compared to what we have had in the past. Exciting!
