NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

What’s interesting is that many x870e boards have pci lanes shared where yes it has a pci 5 x16 but as soon as you add a m.2, it halves that which is basically running it at pci gen 4 x16 speeds.

So PCI lane sharing is a none issue
not mine, I chose my board carefully... My PCIe slot runs full speed, my USB4 speed drops by half and my m.2 slots are affected instead. Best compromise.
I think most Asus and gigabyte boards nerfed the PCIe slot, which is **** for a gaming rig.

There is probably only 10 of us in total on this forum that want to get one, seeing as most people here are slagging it off lmao
yeah, it does make me laugh that apparently there is huge demand, yet all I see is hate on every single forum I visit.

More hate I see the better, gives me a chance of getting one. :p

Reverse psychology in action. There'll be a few here that want a 5090 Astra, Suprim etc on day one. If they can make others hesitate for even a second, they increase the likelyhood that they'll beat them to adding to cart and taking home the precious
I honestly don;t understand anyone that is aiming to get an Astral. zero benefits over other AIBs, yet $800 over msrp. am I missing something?
The suprim I can understand, same with several other cards. but just not the
"that will not only be one kidney, but two"
price of the Astral.

All I want is the FE though personally. looks sexy.

From a maintenance perspective (cause I'd like to keep the card for a while, if I do go through with it) which card looks the best? Cause that Liquid Metal is something I don't want to get into. Read some scary stuff about that if you are not careful enough (I don't trust myself with it).

No not the EPS ones at the top. The supplimental PCIE power 8 pin you find on teh bottom of some high end mobos, sometimes they are on teh side but some of those are just for providing pwer to the USb for chartging
I can't see it doing anything, max power over the slot is 75w and last time I checked modern GPUs pull next to nothing over the slot. If you had a lot of devices running off pcie it might improve stability slightly but if you've just got a GPU and a couple of NVME drives then no it'll make no difference.

Think many will want the Astral for it's looks, bragging rights and wanting to match a ROG motherboard with a ROG GPU etc. If someone is prepared to spend £3k on it, then it's clear they want it, who are we to judge? People spend far more on cars and other expensive hobbies.

Personally I'm going for a 5090 Suprim as it's got the best air cooler this generation. Last gen I had the Strix 4090 simply as it had the best (quietest) cooler.

Will also try for a 5090FE to tide me over until the 5090 Suprim's come into stock, if I end up with 2 cards I'll throw the FE up on MM (for what I paid) :)

There demand is from Prosumers mostly and not gamers. That's not new, this market of top end graphics cards is a total niche in gaming world, but Prosumers have both money and need to get it, so they will - especially that they almost never touch second hand markets (unless really no choice). Hence, the whole hate of gaming world has 0 influence on them and you will hardly see them on forums like this.

Not surprised actually, it's an artificial lock and NVIDIA's own VP of AI said it himself by stating they're looking into bringing MFG to the older generations as well (not just 4000 but even older ones). The question wasn't if 4090 could run that - it has faster AI than slower 5k series GPUs which will have MFG. 4080 and below were more of a question. And now it's been answered - yes, it can run on 4080.
Wow , thought it would happen, but didn't expect it so soon

I havent ever seen an example of it doing anything but for reference i did just get this from AI in me web browser

"Supplemental PCIe power provides additional power to components like GPUs, ensuring they can achieve peak performance and operate stably under heavy loads. This feature is particularly beneficial for high-end GPUs that demand more power than what the motherboard can provide through the standard PCIe slot alone. For instance, MSI’s X870(E) series motherboards come equipped with a supplemental 8-pin PCIe power connector, which can deliver up to 252W of extra power, ensuring that GPUs can run at their full potential without power shortages or system instability. This extra power helps in handling intensive tasks such as gaming, AI computations, and other GPU-intensive applications smoothly."

Think this is an overblown problem for most people (definitely not all though!).

On my ASUS x870 board (completely new AMD system so didn’t see much point going for an older chipset) the M2_2 slot is shared with the GPU but 1 and 3 and can be used freely, with 1 at PCIE5 and 3 at PCIE4.

Suppose if someone needs all the slots then might have a different view but as I was building from new, I just bought new SSDs with my storage requirements covered in 2 units.

Yep due to architecture changes I've just gonna make a blanket statement here and say the 5090 absolute sucks donkeys balls for 1080p and 1440p. This GPU is designed for 4k to 16k gaming - and yes I'm serious because the 5090 is able to run older games at 16k

I’ve always found “designed for xxxx resolution” to be a weird statement (although I get your point, don’t get me wrong).

Folk said the same about the 4090, but I’ve got a 1440p 240hz monitor so I’d say the 4090 was designed for high refresh 1440p gaming.
