NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

I'm going to throw out a wild curve ball prediction.

Free Spiderman 2 with every high end 50 series purchase. Something weird is going on with that game. No pre-order despite advertising pre order bonuses and it comes out tomorrow. Spiderman 1 was also one of the first games to embrace DLSS 3. #believe

What will make gpu cheaper is if amd or/and Intel release a 5090 equivalent card for 2/3 of the price and 2/3 power usage with more stock levels

I don’t want this to sound like I am defending Intel or AMD. But it’s not up to them to make Nvidia lower their prices.

It really is utterly illogical to assume two companies with less than 10% combined of a market share, are the reason the dominant player is shafting us with pricing.

Is this one of those “my Nvidia GPU would be cheaper if AMD lowered prices” things? Apologies if not but we sure do see that failed logic a lot.

I mean anyone ready to drop over £1000 on a 5080, should maybe think “paying this tells Nvidia they have the pricing right”.

I would hope that what the 5080 lacks in raw performance boost over the 40 series it at least makes a stride in thermals… although with that said I’m pretty sure it lacks the Liquid Metal from the 5090.

On balance, for anyone in the market for a card today with a bit of cash to spare, I think a new 5080 would be the best card for most to purchase. 5090 is obscene expenditure whilst this is half the cost.

Not everyone is comfortable in buying a used pc component, especially a gpu.

And to see the prices of a used gpu being over 1k as well is shocking as well.

Anyways, even Samsung and apple still keep selling older models once there new flagship is out. Why can't Nvidia do that.

Heck you can still even buy a amd 7800X3D cpu as well brand new...

Funny you should say that as Apple seemingly kill off / discontinue their previous ‘pro iPhone’ model so that you can no longer purchase it directly once the new one is released. So it’s always ‘go big or go medium’.

Looks like I'll not be upgrading then. I'm not paying even £2k, let alone what the AIBs will actually cost and the 5080 doesn't seem worth the upgrade cost, even with buyers offering £500 for a 3090ti

Apple famously stop selling their pro models each year lol. They only keep selling their budget/mid options and not the high end

I hate being a doomsayer, but the line up is looking like...

- Worst on average generational performance uptick in the history of graphics cards (by good margin)
- Very low performance/power improvement
- Negligible price/performance improvement: you're basically paying the same money for the same performance
- Above RRP pricing nearly across the board
- Extremely meager launch supply

Did I miss anything? I suppose if you had no graphics card whatsoever, this is a marginal improvement.
100-120% uplift for me so more than marginal.
display port 2.1 so i can run my monitor at 7680 x 2160 at 240hz
improved performance for pcvr over my current gpu (3090)

Some warranties do not transfer. So buying used on a GPU over £1000 is a risk. My 4080FE is used bit that has a transferable warranty tied to the card, not the buyer.

I got a 3080 powering lg oled and 1440/360hz screens, so desperate for an upgrade. Gonna eat it with a 5080 then will be more inclined to upgrade to 60 series (assuming theyre not as underwhelming as 50 series)

Why would you not be comfortable buying a used GPU? Most big brands have 3-5 year warranties so buying one use almost certainly means you still have warranty left?
Despite what some people believe, warranties don't transfer and one would be taking a massive risk. Only EVGA officially did this. I wouldn't take the chance personally.

Why not?
Do you abuse your GPU that much? If you don't abuse your GPU what makes you think others abuse theirs?

99% of the time purchasing a 2nd hand GPU you'll be getting a card that's been treated the same as you've treated your own card, so if you expect your own card could easily last another 2-3 years why would it be any different from somebody else? Also, don't forget that many GPUs come with 3-5 year warranty nowadays and if buying/selling on the MM you would be helped if a warranty claim is ever needed. You can also search their forum posts for an idea of how their card was used

But surely you can check if the warranty on the card you want to buy is transferable... you know... before buying?

So, 500 pages in still not a single card in anyone here hands lol!

I definitely don't need 1, I hardly ever game, they'll be £2k+, I already have an acceptable GPU.

So of course I've just transferred 2 grand into my account so I can buy one tomorrow :p

I'm not up to speed on brands, I won't be going for the more expensive options because they have nice lights or a slightly better brand name etc. I know Zotac can be more budget friendly. I guess I'll be lucky to get 1, I'll be ready just hope I'm lucky enough (I'm obviously dumb enough).

LIMITATIONS OF WARRANTY
This warranty applies only to the original purchasers of the Warranted Products from an NVIDIA-authorized third party or www.nvidia.com ; this warranty will not extend to any person that acquires a Warranted Product on a used basis.

I also noticed that. Very very odd. Suspect it has been ready a while, and likely a good port as it is Nixxes again. I will pick it up on sale perhaps. Enjoyed the first one.

Potential good shout… that game is out tomorrow, right?
