Nvidia 9600 GSO

TBh this is different to 9800GTX's. Nvidia actuallly admitted to just re-branding their 8800GS as it was a more logical name. Not like they themselves arent admitting to just renaming it.

It seems stupid, but if you got lots of stuff left, then a re-launch always does well. The Frays single 'how to save a life' didnt even enter the charts in 2005, yet 2007 after its re-release it was number 5 :). (and no i dont have any of that bands mp3s or CDs lol)

Fair enough we all want new cards, don't really see how its that outrageous though, this naming sham has happened plenty of times, Geforce MX anyone? And the new radeons as well.

Will you be able to flash em?

Of course you will be able to, as long as this is all true. If you can't flash the 8 to the 9, then somebody is telling porky pies

It's good to see some people actually seeing it from NV's angle for a change. I'm gettin a little sick of reading threads all about how NV are Satans lapdogs. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and i for one don't see the problem. If someone chooses to buy the card and it's quicker then their old one, then surely thats goal acheived! And what else would they do with the cores that were left over? just throw them away? thats great business sense isn't it!

Oh dont put the new Radeons in the same boat! When the 3870 + 50 came out it was a new die as it was a reduced process! Fair enough it was essentially the same card but at least they made some changes! They also added Direct x 10.1......what did NVidia change or add? Oh yeah the name! :p *round of applause*

Yeah the 9 series are pretty un-inspiring to me, apart from the 9800 GX2. Im seriously considering buying a 3870 X2 but i heard ATI drivers arent exactly the best in the world.

No, ATI have the best driver team by far. Maybe it's drivers that properly get crossfire working or to stop the min frame rates that you mean?.

A driver team that are listening to reports from people, fixing issues and improving performances is what ATI do for their users. Improvements however slight they may be are always welcomed warmly. Nvidia need to adopt these principles. Monthly Nvidia drivers would be amazing but highly unlikely :(.

Loadsa's correct, they've just basically made a new bios for 8800GSes so they register as a 9600GSO, put stickers over the HSF cover, and put them in new boxes.

LOL they probably don't even get new boxes just the original boxes with "9600GSO" stickered over 8800GS.

Nothing new from nv then.

I am all for nVidia's renaming, their not giving it a name to suggest its majorly higher than an 8800GS and the tag makes much more sense. Some may have thought 'ooh an 800 from the 8 series, must be better than the 600 from the 9 series'. Well this re-naming makes sense, brings more attention to a good card that will suit many peoples needs and clearly shows that the card is better than an 8600GT and worse than the 9600GT.

I no way support whats happened with the 9 series so far, but people titling this rename as 'sickening' maybe need to think more about whether this was actually any sneakyness intended.

:)

Yeah and remember the 9600GT is what....10% worse than the 8800GT, and the 9600GSo/8800GS was more like 20% worse or more.
