Nvidia 9800 codename D8E due for Q1 2008

I have a cool degree...

TV and Radio Production:p

As long as it's not directing as from your posting you sometimes show a side of you that is distasteful to others ("I'm a hardware Guru" and the "I know all" attitude). I don't think a TV studio would put up with you that long in a directors chair :D.

Don't make things up try and back up your argument.

5800 was released January 2003
6800 was released April 14th 2004 - 15 months
7800 was released June 22nd 2005 - 14 months
8800 was release November 8th 2006 - 17months

Taken from wiki.

not that I'm trying to stoke anything up but what about the 7900GTX and 7950GX2? Just curious more than anything and can't be bothered to look myself. I do recall a 7900GTX being 1.5 X at least as powerful as a 7800GTX, in the right place it was double. The 8800GTX is more powerfull than 2 x 7900GTX and would demolish 2 7800GTX.

My speciality is in post production Video Editing and Sound Design.

In reality the editor has more to say about the narrative pace of a production more than the Director:D

I will be amazed if the new 9800 is twice as fast as the 8800 series though.

But hey I could be wrong:p

they've had a heck of a long time to work on it.. I agree it seems unlikely due to the sheer pace of the 8800GTX but seriously I think much less than a significant boost or an utterly crazy price would be enough to make people stick with 8800s considering they seem to cope with most things at sensible resolutions currently.

plus they HAVE to make a 9800pro just to stick one in the eye of ati lol!

Indeed a green 9800 whatever next!:p

The 7900GTX was effectively just an overclocked 7800GTX 512 and wasn't that much faster (10-15%?), though it was a fair bit faster than the bog standard 7800GTX.

The GX2 was just cheating :p

Hmmmm, unsure what to do now. Was going to upgrade my graphics in a month of two. Don't know if i should wait now. Might still go ahead with the upgrade.

They will be an obscene price here in the uk and completely out of reach to most people, i am more interested in the effect it will have on the already obscenely priced 8800gtx.
It does amaze me that a card that isn't blisteringly fast for dx10 can command a + £300 price tag.We are probably going to see the 640mb gts drop to current 320 mb levels and the 8800 gtx drop to the current 640mb price levels ? and the 9800 be around £350-£450 ?

There is definetly an opportunity for some crafty ebay sales
:p

7800gtx came first so thats why its compared as 9800gtx will presumably be an all new gpu, etc

If it is double then great, its going to require new motherboards isnt it so it'd better be good

Q1 2008 could be like mar 29th 2008 which would be a gap of basically 17 months

I just hope all the next gen hardware is good enough to run DX10 'like there meant to be played', regardless of the company that makes it.
