NVIDIA & AMD Won't Like This: GPU Price Creep, Greed, and Generational Stagnation

Its a stain on the industry for sure. I would prefer the recent past where a 'mid-range' GPU costing under £300 would be upgraded say in a three year cycle. Present day is 'mid-range' £700+ and if anything more people than ever want GPU's. Would love the live Steam hardware survey, surely people cant be gaming on onboard graphics...

You can get a whole XBox Series X system with a downclocked Ryzen 7 4700G and RX5500(or a bit better?) GPU for £250! Even scalped consoles cost less than a RTX3060! :(

At this rate a mainstream gaming PC is going to cost £1500.

But this has also been accompanied by an almost hysterical buying by the public. I mean the gamers are apparently prepared to pay many times more than these cards are worth so who's the worst in all this? NVIDIA or the buyers? Yes, NVIDIA are greedy, but apparently they could charge far more and people would lap it all up.

Considering the GPU market at the moment, i don't even think they need to be at RRP to be good value at the moment. They are probably easier to get as well.

No ****. My ps5 cost me 500$ while my 2080 is currently worth 1000$ on the second hand market. And that’s just the gpu.

******* miners destroyed the gpu market. A 3080 gets sold instantly here in Romania when it pops up at 3000 ******* dollars. A 3080 for ***** sake.

I doubt very much it's the gamers that are fulling this, its more likely the miners. We've already seen mining rigs with 70+ of the same pny 3080 inside it. The miners are the ones buying the cards in bulk through dealings with the aib partners, and any miners that can't do deals with them are going the bot route to snap up cards instantly. What's left over seems to get passed onto the rest of the market which results in a monkey **** fight with people paying way over the odds as many people sold off their older cards in preparation for an upgrade.

If there hadn't been a mining boom coinciding with this pandemic cards would be much easier to get as nobody would be buying cards in bulk besides the retailers and etailers.

With AMD their issue is they're allocating most of their supply to consoles so the pc market is getting a paltry supply of 6000 series cards.
