NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

If they had launched one year ago then it would have been interesting. Today I have to ask why buy next gen that doesn't do next gen well? These do overclock well, but overclocking thse days has become as exciting as tuning a TV. I do think AMD have done a great job with RDNA2, but they are not a charity. They need to catch up with next gen features rather than holding the PC back at console levels.

It all depends if the end user is really into Ray Tracing or not, if the latter is the case they can save a lot of money by getting a 6800 XT or 6900 XT rather than a 3090.

Ray Tracing does very little for me despite the fact that I have a setup that can run it better than any 3090 but that is just my opinion.

All this talk of 4K and RT, remind me of how many gamers actually game on 4K and as for RT, top 200 most reviewed games of 2020, has RT=3, has DLSS=4, has both=5, has neither=188, 4K and RT pfft gimme a break guys. Recently got an UW screen and 6800 which will do me very nicely. Cyberpunk looks a mess so I wont be buying it until its fit for purpose, in six months maybe and hopefully Amd have sorted out better RT and a dlss equivalent by then.

It may do very little for you, but is it an option that you wish to ignore and more importantly not have the option of? Why would you get a 6800XT over a 3080?

Your walking the beaten path @rolypolyman :) we expressed these sentiments leading up the to ampere launch - only difference is now ampere is here we can see just how good at RT the new hardware is..
Sorry @Th0nt but no, what I think you mean is Nvidia is better at RT than AMD, and so they should be, but RT is still not good and not supported in many games. I think its still a generation or two away yet but I'm not paying the RT tax just yet.

Let the man enjoy his expensive hardware for god sakes!

:p:D

I would not.

I would get a 6900 XT to put in my other PC, I already have a couple of 3090s.

I really want to see how the Asus Strix 6900 XT LC goes as I am a PC hardware enthusiast.

Just because Ray Tracing is not that interesting to me, to other people it is a major step forward. The same can be said of the big Navi cards, some people will think they are great and others will think they are not so good.

I would have purchased a 3080/3090 but the first is too expensive and the second is......too expensive. I also wasn't comfortable with 10GB of memory. Rt and 4K dont bother me either so the 6800 will suffice for now. I respect other peoples choices, its your money to spend as you wish.

He worked hard for his money and he can spend it the way he sees fit. Just look at his sig :p:D

How much did you pay for your 6800 by the way? :)
£599. My previous two cards were 980Ti @£500+ and 2070 @£500. The 2070 has been stellar and is going to my son who currently has a Radeon 4GB 470. He will see a massive difference.

Could not have said it better myself. Only Gregster may have said it better I recon :p

Bit on the expensive side, but at least you got something, many still waiting on their pre-orders.

My 3080 FE cost me £649, but ended up sub £600 after selling the codes that came with it and the usual cashback I get on my credit card on all purchases.

Yes more than I would have liked, but you know , msrp was $579 and that just converts to pounds with vat etc, the vat was £100 alone. To be honest if my son hadn't been desperate for my 2070 I would have waited a few months.

You misunderstanding, as @TNA knows, I said many a time the Turing series couldnt do it, and likely ampere would not - and here we are. Plenty of mouth frothers over the months on the defence. ;)

£649 and came with Call of Duty and GeForce Now codes :D

It only has 10GB of VRAM though.

Why would they? If the core meets the 3090 spec, they can sell it for a higher price. Every 3090 FE has sold out, until that stops happening there is no incentive to produce lower end SKUs.

It’s all about having the highest average selling price possible from each wafter.
