NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

a 3070 being faster than a 2080Ti? can't see that happening but hope I'm wrong (RTX doesn't count)

When you say RTX doesn't count are talking about all the things RTX brings, like Variable Rate Shading, VRSS, DLSS, Ray Tracing or are you just talking about Ray Tracing?

And, in either case, why does it not count?

ANd if it was faster than a 2080Ti.. would we see a £600 3070?
1070 was around Titan X performance, did not cost a grand, but around £350. Charging £600 for a 3070 that is 2080Ti performance is asking for bad reviews and disappointment imo.

Yet the 2070, didn't match the Titan Xp, only barely beat 1080 performance, and cost $500 for boardpartners, and $600 from NVIDIA on launch.

Don't see how it's far fetched if the 3070 pushing 600 in price.

I mean ray tracing and DLSS performance, its a feature secondary to the raw performance on all games not just a select few with variable results.

We'll see. I just cannot see it being the case with competition from consoles, from AMD (hopefully) and less disposable income from people due to covid. That said I can see a Asus Matrix edition or some rubbish like that costing £600, but not the base model.

I think it breaks Nvidia's pricing model, yeah they would want £600 for it and try to claim its x3 faster when in reality it will be some feature like DLSS or RT not its raw performance but I guess we'll have to deal with that BS when it comes. It also raises difficult questions like where a 3080 or 3080Ti product would fit if you're already beating the 2080Ti at that level it just doesn't feel like the sort of thing Nvidia would do.

Another possibility is that it's basically a 2080 Super for £500-600 (the 2080 Ti being a good 20-30% faster).

Regardless of what happens with consoles, I do not think nVidia will be generous this gen. I think it's more of the same "get your wallet out boys" to come.

Call me pessimistic. There are enough people who will either have money for both, or have vowed not to buy a console on pain of death, to keep product rolling of the shelves - even if the value proposition favours the consoles, I still think nV will have no trouble selling cards at inflated prices.

I don't think I can agree with that. Maybe I could be convinced that DLSS is in so few games that it doesn't count but not Ray Tracing.

Ray Tracing is now part of DX12. AMD RDNA 2 cards will have it, Consoles will have it. It's going to take off in a big way. How the next gen cards perform in Ray Traced games compared to this generation will be important.

Cyberpunk 2077 will have Ray Tracing.

Yup, this is clear logic. RT is a new graphical standard, it's that simple.

Widespread use of RT has been a goal for aaggeeesss, particularly for directional audio. It will be a fantastic tool for high fidelity content, and I'm particularly excited about realistic audio in VR content!

What galled me was the initial RTX cards dedicated huge amounts of transistors to a feature that wasn't ready to be released. RTX cards regressed quite significantly in terms of performance per transistor, and passed the cost onto the consumer for the large jump in die size and inherent decrease in yields as a result.

I guess it depends on how much performance is lost by turning RT on (on the consoles) and whether they let you turn it off via an in-game setting.

AMD's RT solution doesn't use dedicated RT hardware does it, so having RT on will come at the cost of significant performance loss.

If they let you turn it off (if) we might find people choosing to forego RT for extra FPS.

As with all things, whether it takes off in a big way will depend on how good the implementation is, and whether consumers prefer RT on or off.

We'll see, won't we.

That fancy new xbox was running minecraft at 1080p 30fps.

If that's how it's going to be most people won't use it.

Personally I'm only interested if it can do native 1440p 120hz. If not I will keep it off.

Most of the installed userbase of graphics cards cannot run RT well,or are even GTX1080TI level. The same goes with consoles. So for a few years,RT will still be a tacked on graphical option which can be switched off. Some of you are acting like suddenly no RT on a GPU means its destined for the bin - if that is the case,if you have a working GTX1080TI which is being thrown away,I don't mind having it! :P
