• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

* Higher power draw than Turing - expect cards to draw power like Pascal but not as efficient as Turing - i.e RTX3080ti will have 280w TDP compared to 250w on the RTX2080ti
He actually says the opposite - that they'll use less power per tier, as Pascal did. Turing cards from the 2060 up already use 40-50W more power than their Pascal equivalents.

* DLSS 3.0 available at launch - works in any game that uses TAA
* Double the Tensor cores per SM unit
* Ray Tracing - targeting up to 4 times performance improvement compared to Turing (Expect RTX3060 to have ray tracing performance of a RTX 2080ti or better and so forth)
* Ray Tracing - In most games, the target is to not have any performance hit from using ray tracing or if there is, just a small one
* Launch date is in September, final date still to be confirmed

Tick tick tick tick :)

Makes you wonder if they'll stagger releases again if the 3080 beats the 2080Ti by a decent margin, then the Ti comes next Summer like it used to do (approx 9 months later iirc). Get those double-dippers back ;)
Depends on how good RDNA 2. Or how paranoid Nvidia are about AMD. If they think that AMD has something that can beat the 3080 then it will be a simultaneous release.

Based on the video above at one point he mentions Nvidia being worried about RDNA2. (not sure if this was his opinion or from his source. I'll need to double check.)

RNDA2 would have to be a massive jump (like double the PPW) and show up on time for it to worry nvidia much.

but love to be wrong and have competition again :)

This has been mentioned by Tom for quite some time, I've been listening to his stuff from the beginning. He's not always 100% but more right than wrong and did send to be picking up more industry contacts over time. "Nvidia killer" was talked about inside AMD and that Nvidia were worried about RDNA2, not so much that they would be soundly beaten but stiff competition is going to hit their strategy and margins. Both were from inside sources, although Nvidia are very hard to get much out of, it seems AMD are getting less leaky over time too.

I share your scepticism but I'm hopeful. RDNA2 would have to be a huge jump up, it would be like a Ryzen type surprise to me if they are on par with Nvidia given their current relative positions. Bear in mind Nvidia are also on a larger process than AMD and still have the lead, albeit with much larger chips.

We will have some information soon. Xbox will be doing a gameplay reveal soon (i think it is before the Nvidia conference). Potentially we can find out the performance of RDNA 2 from this, if they decide to discuss performance.

I don't actually want to upgrade for once, as the 2080Ti is still brilliant and the money I spent on that was ridiculous, even if it's 18 months old.

I do kinda want to take advantage of HDMI 2.1 on my LG C9 though....

Now is probably the time to sell the 2080 Ti while the value is still reasonable... when the 3080 is released it will drop like a stone. Otherwise if it still performs fine for your needs then keep it for another year. :)

Just lack of confidence in the product after all the issues with them.
As I said its a personal preference and most warranty is for the original seller only.

He also said 3060 may have 2080Ti performance depending on what settings you use. So like Hardware Unboxed said, consoles will practically be like mid range hardware on release.. not high end like many seem to have thought.

It will come dow to how much performance is offered at a given price point. If the 3060 provides 2080Ti performance but does so for 2080Ti money, it won't matter if they call it "midrange". A $500 console that provides 2080 non-ti performance (and the complete platform to play games) will still embarrass a $1000 3060.

If Nvidia can provide 2080Ti performance at the *current* 2060 price point, that would be nice and make the new consoles less tempting.

But i'm not falling for the naming shell game. "3060"?....just show me the money, Nvidia.
