NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

How much does a proper blu-ray player cost these days? perhaps that justifies it? dunno cause what the **** would I want spinning disks for :p

A bluray player is expensive, partially because they aren't popular (economies of scale) but a simple internal bluray drive can be had for not much at all (though movie image quality wont be on par with a stand-alone player).

Either way, 100 Euro off is a lot and is more than the drive costs Sony, which means either Sony makes a bigger lose on the Digital unit OR its cross subsidized by the Fat boy unit. I.e Sony expects most gamers want the disk drive and charge 100 euro more for the privilege and uses this to discount the Digital unit to get more buyers at the low end. It would be a smart tactic - it's the same as Limited Edition video games, you charge a higher premium for a gamer who must have all the features and use that to subsidise the games' cost at the entry level.

Locking the buyer out of the second hand games market is probably worth 100 euro to Sony.
Easily.

The digital version would ha e to be £199 or less for me to consider it. Even then it would just sit there and collect games monthly and wait for other games to go on 50% discount at least.

Now if digital games were £29.99 on release then I would seriously consider going digital.

not many people would buy a console and then not buy a game....

I wonder what the numbers are on that - was a bunch of us at work talking about it at the weekend (well mostly the conversation was about Warzone and PC vs console) as several have PS4s they've never bought a game for - occasionally use it for movies.

(Was quite surprised how many said it was basically sitting there gathering dust).

That's pretty idiotic to buy a gaming machine and not game on it. I have a Ps4 pro and the woman has a one x. Both get plenty of action as when i bought my ps4 then pro i knew exactly what games i would be buying. Sony only games are by far the best sp games on the market, for online i 90% of the time use my PC. Who in there right mind buys a console to look at it :D:D:D:D:D

I assume they bought a bundle and played the games that came with it possibly specifically for that game I know there have been FIFA bundles, etc. - I don't know specifics. From what I can make out they haven't just sat there all the time they've just never bought a game since purchase.

Wouldn't be me, i want value for my money and love all the Sony only games. I don't really buy games either for my ps4 because i rent them. It's mainly sp games i play and once done i don't go back so makes more sense to rent. Latest game is Final Fantasy 7 remake and so far really enjoying it. No doubt it will arrive on PC but i don't want to wait a year or two and looks great on the pro.

Probably all subscribe to plus too and don't use it

You can still rent games?
anyway that's the point of the digital version to stop you from doing that. You would be stuck with ps store prices unless shops will be allowed sell keys so you won't get much good deals.

Yea you can still rent games and no chance i will be going for the digital version. I save a fortune renting games for all the consoles in my house. I buy each years cod digitally as a lot of my friends play it so i go on for the odd game to have a laugh.

Yes +1 on the steam games, it's a shame they don't let you send them back for a partial refund but then I've spent thousands of hours on games costing £35 so it all balances. Ampere cards will have to be reasonably priced otherwise I can see a lot of people switching to the new consoles. Sufficient performance for an acceptable 4K experience seems to be on offer and with that PC gaming will lose one of it's advantages. So many people are buying reasonably priced 4K TV's and a PC that can give an equivalent performance looks like it could cost more than twice as much. Most people who need one will already have a PC of some sort so the idea they'll upgrade that PC for anything other than gaming is a unlikely and if they do upgrade for gaming they may well find many other components in that PC hamper the experience unless they start spending silly money.

I have stuff I want to do with my hardware and "bragging rights" isn't on the list. If a console gets the job done, the new GPU's become easier to pass on.

If they try to sell us a little performance for a lot of money again, it looks like we will have other viable options this time around.

Yup, be interesting to see how their prices are this time around, if and ca be competitive and the consoles knocking around at around the same time frame hopefully we wont be pumped over a barrel.

I'm gearing up for giving the 3 series a miss.

Can't see it being anything else than more expensive than the 2 series, would be glad to be proven wrong.

I've still got so many games to play that my 1070 can handle well, even at 3440x1440, I might as well wait for the 4 series, which will have even more of an RT boost.
