NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

10GB VRAM not enough now? I have been playing FS2020 and with 11GB VRAM and 16GB DDR4 and it is coping just fine. Sure FS2020 is the new Crysis but it looks amazing and I am a big fan.

You know 11 is higher than 10, right? Or was that just a confusingly worded post.

I see now, rumour must be from MLID, wonder if they'll price the 20GB 3080 so close to the 3090 that you may as well say screw it and order that instead.. that would be a bit of a kick to the nuts

That wouldn't make sense. A 10GB 3080 should be significantly cheaper than the 3090 so an extra 10GB VRAM would hardly add that many hundreds... it should be an extra £150 tops.

My intention is to skip this gen and look next time
LOL do you actually believe that? :D

We'll see, common sense says it shouldn't be much more yeah. But who knows :p
Well, until proven otherwise let's use some common sense and not just make random exaggerated figures based on worst case scenarios up for the sake of it yet until some more concrete figures are released. All of this pricing speculation drama and doom mongering is starting to get a bit much. :)

Might want to tell that to the guy running the MLID channel then, as that's where the rumours are coming from

Really should have been around this roughly.

3090 24gb
3080 16 to 20gb
3070 10gb
3060 8gb
3050 6gb

A 10gb 3080 should never exist considering how demanding next gen console games are potentially going to be in vram usage.

While this is better. I don't even think an 8gb 306o is "acceptable". Should be more in 2020. Bear in mind a 3060 should be somewhat replacing the 2080.

Not everybody will change their GPU every year/gen, so people are thinking ahead for 2+ years.

And also not everybody is buying the xx80 card either! The lesser cards have 6 or 8 GB!

Finally nobody said we need 20. We just don't want less than 12.

Sheesh, we've had 8GB cards for 5+ years.

Well said.

I would have been happy to consider the 3070 if it had 12GB (which it really should have).

To offer just 8GB on this card and 10GB for the 3080, well, it's an insult as far as I'm concerned, and I'll be voting with my wallet, just as I did for the 2 series.

Moores Law is saying that the Super series may be dropped as it is confusing consumers... that may be optimistic though. Also saying a 3070 will be the same performance as a 2080 Ti but with far greater RT performance, which sounds pretty good.

We just have to hope that AMD bring the competition and don't skimp on VRAM. To me it's confusing why Nvidia chose this strategy with the VRAM.

However, I bet many people still preorder Ampere without seeing the AMD reviews though!

People should be going on Facebook and Twitter and giving Nvidia hell about this so they see some pushback.

Why not? Does anyone think it's going to be rubbish? We also have no idea on availability, ie, if they can supply enough, and prices often seem to creep up too soon after launch.
While I may not this time, I don't think it's bad people do. if AMD were launching with reviews out around same time then I could understand it a bit more, waiting for the reviews.

Risk is you dont pre-order and after the reviews find you can't actually buy one or price crept up. Great if folks fine with that.

Just found the GEFORCE RTX logo on my 2080 has gone dim. Think I just found a justification for an upgrade, again :D

ratchet and clank is really our first proper look at RDNA2 rayvtracing as we know what it looks like and we know how it works and what know what the framerate and resolution is - and to be honest, I'm far from impressed
Yea, I felt the same about RT on the 2000 series. Hopefully with the extra oomph from the 3000 series we have something better for games like Cyberpunk 2077.

That what I gathered from reading some of the comments. People saying that early adopters of the 3080 will regret the purchase eventually with it's 'only' 10GB of vram and eventually lust for the 3080 Super / Ti with it's 20GB vram when it releases in 6-9 months.
Way I see that is I waited and skipped 2000 series and happy I did. So as long as the price is not stupid and I get it from the start there will be zero regrets as tech always moves on.

He wants the 3090 obviously but even Nvidia’s **** taking prices are starting to take a toll on him, so he is not sure and does not want to commit so he is lying to himself by saying he won’t upgrade.

The reality is, once he sees Jensen’s presentation he will get mesmerised by the marketing and at the very least upgrade to a 3080. But will probably go 3090 as long as Jensen is willing not to go in much deeper than he did last time :p

He can always help justify it by saying I miss reviewing stuff ;)

Sound about right Gregster ma boy? :D

3090 availability will be poor according to Moore's Law, so yeah I don't doubt enthusiast-FOMO will play a part for those without the patience to wait. However, it's unwise to not wait to see what AMD bring, especially for those who have made 1000 posts complaining about Nvidia and their pricing.
