8K is the future, according to AMD and NVIDIA (NYSE:AMD, NASDAQ:NVDA)

4K is barely here and getting into the market, but we already have some great monitors in the Acer XB280HK, which is powered by NVIDIA's G-SYNC technology. Forget all that, though, as news is coming out about 8K, and that both NVIDIA and AMD are looking at ways to make this insanely high-res technology happen.

Will 8k be the first res where AA truly isn't needed, I noticed some say you don't need it on 4k whereas others say you still need 2xAA to eradicate jaggies.

I think I may of asked this question before and may have been told 16k will be needed for that.

My opinion is that it's at least partially down to pixel size, not outright resolution. The nature of this is that screen sizes (for monitors) are not increasing as quickly as resolutions, so pixels are getting smaller. The smaller the pixel, the less noticeable the jaggies.

Yeah I understand bigger screens will change the pixel size, but say if we get 8k on current sized monitors? Would 8k even look right on say a 27" panel? Everything would be tiny right?

Yeah I prefer sitting close to screens when gaming as well so using a 40" screen for 8k to look right wouldn't be my cup of tea as you'd literally have to move your head around.

Maybe a case of bigger isn't always better? :D Obviously for movies and stuff this will be unreal but for gaming I think there's going to become a point where it's too much.

Obviously font size and scaling can be increased.

We once used 640 x 480, font size and scalability has been adjusted over the years as 1920 x 1080P became the standard. It will be no different with 4K / 8K.

I use Windows 7 @ 1440P and just set scaling to 125%. It's perfect.

People being dramatic over the smallest things :p

Fonts and icons will need larger sizes. They'll appear the same physical size on the screen but look much sharper :)

Exactly (:

Everyone cries at scaling, not had a single issue with it in windows 8 at 4k. Just set it to 120% everythings sharp and readable.
