Nvidia and AMD users run into bugs and critical errors due to MS KB3004394 update

Ran windows update last night (which included this patch) and today my PC would freeze whilst loading windows (screen with the windows logo and the spinning circles).

Started working after I disabled MSI fast boot.

Running windows 8.1. Not sure if it is related but worth stating.
 
I was having a lot of trouble with Far Cry 4 the last few days and was starting to get worried my 980 might have been about to go up in smoke. While playing my GPU would randomly go to half clocks and get stuck there while my desktop would get all messed up like I was having some memory problem but since uninstalling this update this morning and playing all day I've had no trouble.
