NVIDIA announces GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti

The 3080ti FE will be the biggest unicorn of all the cards. The way gamers will see it, is that it's a 3090 but for £350 cheaper, as 24gb vram was always overkill for gaming.

Does it even have the LHR chips on the FE?

Will be interesting to see the reviews, especially thermals of the FE and is it really the same performance of the 3090.

This can't be true, I was assured by some posters on this forum that there absolutely wouldn't be a 3080Ti released....

Will be interesting to see how availability works out along with the mining nerf and decreasing mining returns, I would be shocked if they are available anywhere near the quoted MSRP though unless you manage to win the FE lottery.

What's the bet we see AIB pricing in the 1800-2000 range?

Good card at £1000 or less but not at £1500

Is it in stock for MRSP? :cry:

Sleepy beat me to it :cry:

I guess drivers are not as crap as they used to be.

Ha, well nothing's MSRP but at least it's in stock. If you are too slow on Nvidia website or didn't pay the lighter scalps back in Oct Nov 2020 then these are the prices with warranty you need to pay. 3090's fly out the door at more ££

Ok, it looks like only two cards in this generation makes sense in terms of value at MSRP:
  • 3060 Ti for 1080p / 1440p;
  • 3080 for 1440p / 4k;

3060? Pay a bit extra and get 3060 Ti for significant performance boost.
3070? 20% more expensive for 5-10% more performance, worse value.
3070 Ti? Pay a bit extra and get 3080.

3080 Ti / 3090? Very expensive, bad value for money.

Well that was disappointing from Nvidia, I was expecting the 3080 TI to be $999 which would still have been far too much. There were some nice RTX game announcements though. The best keynote was from AMD, they exceeded my expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. The less said about Intel the better.

3080Ti = just under MSRP 3090 price, nearly all the perf but with half the very expensive GDDR6X RAM = more profit per card.

1 x 3090's RAM can now make 2 x 3080Ti's! BOOM!

3080 Ti =

1- half the VRAM
2- 3080 cooler (with a 350w card that should have the 3090 cooler)
3- no SLI
4- chips that would normally have been used for a 3080 are now a 3080ti.
5- twice the price of a 3080.

So basically a win win for Nvidia, all they really did was add 2 extra memory chips and used the same GPU as a 3080 but less cut down. So really the cost of the 3080ti for Nvidia compared to a 3080 FE is the cost of 2 extra memory chips (then double the price).:cry:

Yep essentially Nvidia saw those insane 3080 scalper prices were happily paid. Stock piled 3080 dies while drip feeding previous preorders. Waited a few months to make sure it wasn't completely obvious. And are now repackaging what would have been $650 cards for 2x the price. Good business, Satan would be proud.

Why is everybody blaming Nvidia? If idiots will pay they can charge what they want.

True,

Though MSRP is like those furniture shops that always have sales on, as there is 1 warehouse and whilst open to the public isn't advertised or set up like the main stores. SO as long as one non advertised store has MSRP marked up @ £1000, then every other store has a sale price. Just that one store is always marked up and sale price is MSRP.

Been happening for years.

Guess as the 3080's are quite capable @ 4k you dont really need a better card - unless all game developers go the way of cyberpunk style releases = pre Alpha release quality. :D
