Nvidia cards... dropping like flies?

Every manufactruer will have problems, its not unheard of, ATi had them with the 9800pro as said above, forum after forum is littered with borked 7900's, its a fact 7900's have problems, end off, stop making excuses etc... just admit it that your card manufactuer has messed up this time and move on, its not the end of the world they are still a fantastic card maker, just they messed up with this one, it happens.

EDIT: your spot on there james. :)

Well personally ive had 2 7900GTs, bith were fine. Then I had a 7900GTX also with no problems. Onl;y sold them as i needed a bit of cash quickly.

I had no problem getting a 7900GS, and again this works perfectly.. touch wood :p

Only the "Overclock Higher" is wrong everything else is pretty much spot on.

Im told by several people they only OC higher on water, on air ATI and Nvidia are like for like.

firstly ATIs are like pentium 4s and usually run hotter than there nvidia counterpart, they have completely different way of doing things, nvidia = higher number of pipelines, lower clocks and ATI = lower number of pipelines, insane clock speed. as well the only 7600GTs i have heard having problems are AGP leadtek ones, i have two PCI-E ones and there problem-free, mav has one and as far as i know his is running perfectly as well

Nvidia's run a lot hotter than ATI's. I know that much. :p

ATI cards use more power and run Hotter.

In fact the fastest card in production ,the GX2 uses less power and emits less heat than the X1950.

thats what i was thinking, ATIs eat up far more power on average than there newer nvidia counterparts, generate less heat and make less noise, plus the newer ones clock just as well as ATIs i mean my 7600GTs went from 540 core 700 memory all the way to 645 core 840 memory without any issues

a GX2 is 2x 7900gtx in sli mode on '1 card' ;) as for a single gfx processor, i.e. and individual card, the x1900XTX and x1950xtx are fastest on planet, if you run it like for like, i.e. crossfired versions of these cards, they obliterate a GX2. Powerconsumption is a smidge more, but not a lot more than a GX2, and can get toasty yes, but lets face it, if your buying and running these cards I very much doubt (unless your somewhat dense) that the rest of your system is going to be aweful, so how much power they use/hot they get is a moot point (who cares if it runs at 65c vs 55c as long as it works fine, it doesnt effect image quality and to a point fps !{unless your o/c course then heat is the main enemy}).

Picture quality swings slightly in favor of ATI, it just looks more crisp and clear, and the ability to run aa + hdr is a nice touch, as far as how 'intelligently designed' the GPU is (as far as processing images), ATI's is better, and should be, it was on the drawing board for longer.

As for drivers Nvidia wins here, iv used 6800 and 7800 card, both good and there driver interface 'seemed' a lot more 'fluid' and well written, but then there relativly a more 'simple' beast as far as internal techincals go. ATI has caught up though, there latest drivers working nicely on my X1900XT card.

SO its all swings and roundabouts, the CURRENT leader in everything (bang for buck, drivers, picture quality, power, fps) is just had by ATI, there GPU's pulling ahead with suprior capabilitys and video playback as well. No doubt nvidia will bounce back with something great of there own, if that wins the next 'round' ill buy that 1 ;)

It went off topic when certain people feel the need to spout nonsense in threads about NV cards.

The cards have had problems but no way near the level of what is made out.

I have had 7900 GT,GTX and GX2 and all have been trouble free.

The fact is the consumer has choice.

What was the point of this thread anyway?

iViper starts it spouting nonsense and then apologies for it.

And loadsamoney comes in with his copy and pastes :D

Hows that, the topic is about the 7900 problems, i said they have problems, i wasnt talking about you easy above, i was talking about the others who turned it into a my knobs bigger than yours thread, there is no point as both manufacturers make quality cards, both are as good as each other, ATi do some things better than Nvidia, Nvidia do some things better than ATi, ATi run some games faster, Nvidia run some games faster.

Im sure i never said this, which has got nothing to do with the problems of the 7900.

ATI cards overclock higher on more common and cheaper cooling, live longer, and offer a higher image quality, with HDR and AA support, all for less money.
