nVidia Control Panel

Bit of an odd one this. Has anyone else had an issue with the nVidia Control Panel being really slow?

I'm on Vista 32 HP with Opti 165 (2.2Ghz) and 2Gb of Ram, loads of space left on the HDD and an 8800GTX. I'm running the XG174.74 modded drivers so this could potentially be the problem.

When I right click the desktop and select the NCC it can take up to 20 seconds for it to load up and be useable. When I change profiles it can take about 10 seconds to give the 'do you accept the new settings' countdown. Sometimes it takes so long Vista put up the 'Not Responding' line in the header - it still works, I just have to leave it a bit longer.

So... perfectly stable, but really, really slow... apart from the modded drivers any ideas?

(I don't want to get into an ATi/nVidia driver bashing session so please keep to my issue - I just want to know if anyone else suffers with this and if there are any potential solutions. ;))

Does the same with my T9500, but it is much faster on my Q6600. The configuration is managed in the registery so at a best guess, if your windows install isn't that fresh then it has to find the strings to modify deep in the registery using a lot of CPU power

Not a bad idea to clean out the registry - haven't done it for a while - interesting that it does it on a fresh install as well though. I take it you guys are using nVidia drivers rather than hacked ones?

(OT: Hows that HDDvd/BluRAY working out Urban - want one of those on my next build!)

Wasn't slow for me in XP when i used the XG 174.74's, im now using their 174.93's without prob, i just right-click the Nvidia logo in the Tool Bar, Select Performance & Quality settings, then the Antialiasing Settings and the CP appears instantly, its also fine when i change settings and Apply them, does it straight away.

I use the 169.25 drivers, so yeah official stuff. I've never been a fan of using beta or hacked drivers for anything. What might be interesting to note is that on my fresh install I was using an 8400 GS, and then upgraded to a 8800 GTS 512 later. Though they use the same drivers, I did have to reinstall. It was still slow on my 8400 though.

It's the GGC-H20L drive I've got. It's absolutely brilliant for CDs and DVDs but I haven't had the chance to test it out with a HD film yet. Hopefully within a week as there's a good deal on the HDDVD Bourne trilogy I've seen. :)
