nVidia Drivers almost as bad a AMD?

Snips I have the same cards as you and have been using the same driver since well before taking my 780 out. Single titan, SLI, dual titans in non SLI, 780 and titan and about 15 different BIOS's and they have been solid. 347.52 iirc.

AMD I have only used 1 driver and a sample size of one is as relevant as a sample of none.

I never bother uninstalling old NVidia drivers, I just do a clean install over the old ones.

The only time I use DDU is to get rid of old bits of AMD drivers as these do cause problems sometimes.

I think this may be a good time for me to get may hat and coat.:D:)

I get that, honestly I do but there was as reason for uninstalling the drivers. Booting the PC up in the morning, rebooting through the day would cause the monitor to go black, with no picture and I'd need to disconnect the DP cable & monitor power to get it back.

^^This is why I uninstalled the drivers to fix this. I don't normally remove them like this when updating them, I just, as you've said above, do a clean install or just install over the top!

I've removed the drivers a few ways. Used DDU, removed them bit by bit from uninstall programs and also run straight over them and never had this problem. It's got nothing to do with the drivers being bad, somethings just gone wrong at your end.

Same method I've used ever since the 680's.

As and when switching vendors I reinstall windows and start afresh - saves any issues normally.

That's a little extreme. When switching vendors, I uninstall the drivers as normal, go through all the directories and remove the odd bits & bats that are left manually, then run a DDU cleaner.

Not at all.

This thread is purely about driver install and yet again you bring up the 970 vram issue.

You do it at every opportunity you see fit whether or not it's relevant to the thread.

Hence my use of "beating the drum"
I was responding to TNA's comment in regards to peoples' posting attitudes, so don't go make things up...I did not post this out of blue.

Too many people are incapable of looking at things objectively, so this thread, since its creation has no room for discussion since the very beginning, as any problem with ATI/AMD it always get blamed on the driver rather than PEBKAC; when problem occur on Nvidia side people jumping into blame it on PEBKAC

To be honest I don't know what snips86x is hoping to achieve with this thread...I mean anyone been on this part of the forum long enough, they would know what course would a thread like this run and what the responses would be like.

I mean I don't blame him for trying to start a discussion and try to get people to try to be more open-minded, but I would have just told him "Mate you are just wasting your time...".

If you say so

All the posts about PEBKAC were pulling the OP's leg and quite blatantly so.

But as usual YOU turn it into a RED v GREEN.

.

Well I read the OP as "why do both vendors drivers cause issues when reinstalling".

Not as a "I need help" thread :)

Putting words in caps doesn't make you right. This thread was created with the context of people talking about drivers from both camps, so I did not "turn this into a red vs green".

Re-read this topic from the beginning to page 2, and you'd clearly see the talk of Nvidia vs AMD was here before I even posted

It's always easier to try to make someone out as the "bad guy making a scene" to try to get others to jump on him than addressing the points that were raised.

Please guys, this thread wasn't created for baiting, trolling or to bring up irrelevant issues. I had a genuine issue and wanted to (rant) get assistance!

Thread: 'nVidia drivers almost as bad as AMDs'.

Marine: '970 VRAMgate'

Whichever way you try to spin it you were posting completely off topic and derailing the thread. If anybody did the same prior to you then a) you're just as bad for continuing it and b) two wrong don't make a right.

Apologies Martin.

I just thought you were stating reinstalling drivers from either side isn't always a straight forward process :o
