nVidia Drivers almost as bad a AMD?

Neither AMD or NVidia drivers are (single GPU) particularly better or worse then each other, nor are NVidia they less likely to release something that breaks.

The difference I've always found is NVidia can break something, release a hotfix that makes it worse, patch it so that it at least runs, break it again and then finally resolve the issue before the AMD driver’s team have had their morning coffee.

Well users on the Official Nvidia forums says otherwise.

Last time I read the NVidia forums I felt a very urgent need to hack my own head off with something blunt. The only thing you can base an opinion on from that place is that your own existence isn't that bad, you could be one of them.

What Sin said. I dont even clean install, just install new drivers on top of old ones (Nvidia) and cant remember the last time I had a problem

Same here, I've been doing that with AMD and Nvidia. A new driver releases so I install it, I've yet to uninstall first (except when I move from brand to brand).

You spend far too much time on the nvidia forums.

No i spend a lot of time on many forums as i like to read whats going on for myself and a look at the nvidia forums the least but just enough to know that what is sometimes said outside of the NV forums is BS when it comes to drivers, which you strangely enough are not one for doing so :).

Not gonna hype nvidia.

But i seriously have only had issues with nvidia drivers when installing custom ones (and that was only cause you need to change things in windows).

And i usally run the nvidia clean uninstall restart my pc then run ccleaner (both reg and files) then install. (but tbh i only usally do this maybe 2/3 times each os i wipe every 6 months :D )

I have had issues with the nvidia installer using standard from nvidia.com a few times. But its always fixable so i dont feel there is a reason to shout about it. PCs are complicated and software can interfere from time to time. A bad uninstall using nvidia own uninstaller, due to interference, can cause the driver not to install afterwards. Again no biggie, google is your friend.

Having had many Nvidia and ATI/AMD cards I never recall having driver issues. On both from as far back as I can remember it has been as simple as just installing over older driver when updating to new one's.

Don't get all this using driver cleaner stuff.

Got to love all the fan boys coming in defence of Nvidia though. Sad... Instead of trying to be helpful to a fellow gamer struggling, they post useless crap like PEBKAC or insinuating the user is an idiot because nvidia drivers are so solid that it is inconceivable it would be because of them due to some incompatibility in his system :o

I certain most if not all PEBKAC posts were just pulling the OP's leg :)

I think a lot of people use this tactic to try and post what they really want to say, but then if called up on it can just say was just joking or pulling said persons leg etc. I have been reading the graphics card section more than I usually do lately and it's always the same people. :o:rolleyes::)

The attitudes difference between AMD users addressing and acknowleging potential black screen issues on the 290/290x vs Nvidia users denying potential stuttering and other performance issue (frame rate's fine, but gameplay doesn't feel smooth etc) on the 970 (typically by Nvidia users who don't even own the card) to potential buyers says it all really...

780Ti would be far better peace of mind than the 970 for 1080p gaming, even if it does have 500MB less vram.

That may be correct in most case's..

However, in this case I believe it's just banter.

But feel free to look at the negative side if it makes you happy.

Good god man get a grip.

That drum you're beating must be on it's last legs by now

I'm sure that while some of you are laughing behind your monitors with the "user error" comments, I think you should read the OP again as you've clearly mis-read it.

I will iterate again for those who've not bothered to read, all I did was uninstall the drivers so I could re-install - It's that simple. For whatever reason, the nVidia drivers wouldn't install despite multiple reboots and the hardware wizard was not running.

While I managed to fix this, the use of DDU came after the installation attempt had failed. I've not really needed it for nVidia (this being the first time) but without starting WWIII, I required it often when running my 290!

Considering it's fixed, we'll leave it there but my point was that the driver checks shouldn't have given an error like it did as the hardware wizard was indeed inactive.

haha :D I've seen that too!

What the hack are you on about?

I guess sometimes people just don't like being told to look at the reality of things as it is, because they know it is true.

Not at all.

This thread is purely about driver install and yet again you bring up the 970 vram issue.

You do it at every opportunity you see fit whether or not it's relevant to the thread.

Hence my use of "beating the drum"

Snips I have the same cards as you and have been using the same driver since well before taking my 780 out. Single titan, SLI, dual titans in non SLI, 780 and titan and about 15 different BIOS's and they have been solid. 347.52 iirc.

AMD I have only used 1 driver and a sample size of one is as relevant as a sample of none.

Why is it that when you uninstall the drivers for either manufacturer, you still get the same **** when attempting a re-install.

1) Uninstall drivers
2) Run DDU in safe mode
3) Attempt to re-install drivers
4) Loose patience over driver installers inability to detect services which aren't running

Seriously.....WTF!!!!!!!!!

I never bother uninstalling old NVidia drivers, I just do a clean install over the old ones.

The only time I use DDU is to get rid of old bits of AMD drivers as these do cause problems sometimes.

I think this may be a good time for me to get may hat and coat.:D:)
