Nvidia Drops XP Support!

Yep, Nvidia dropped xp support for anything lower than the 8500 series of cards today.

Even the drivers for XP have dissapeared off their site now, yet another dissapointing move from nvidia.

That is rather curious, I've just checked for the 6x00 and 7xx0 series and they only support Vista now. It doesn't bother me much since I haven't changed my drivers in about 2 years but it does seem rather odd. Maybe it is because they won't be releasing any new ones for those models under XP as they try to concentrate on Vista drivers for all cards?

Good, they need to focus on the vista drivers, they suck.

Or stick to a proven operating system that works well... Dont get me wrong nothing wrong with Vista, but its hardly the market share for computers at the moment..... prob at least 85% of desktop comps run XP, Vista, Linux and 98 are way behind there....

Yeah, maybe we should just use WinXP forever and forget about progress. I'm with you, thats a great plan.

Nvidia need to get Vista drivers to a decent state, I just find your appeal for better drivers, well put..... "Good, they need to focus on the vista drivers, they suck." a solid argument. XP is the main stay of operating system's for a while yet till new comps start with Vista full stop. So sorry dude.... Please get over it. No offense intended......

You'll find that quite a few people who jumped on the Vista bandwagon a little too early and are now suffering for it will get defensive about it, Vicar. ;)

Yer they probably will, but with Vista being around for a while in its previous builds avail tot he public, people should maybe read up more on it, before buying it as a main OS, XP was not so bad, at least Win2K Drivers by then worked well and added to XP's overall readiness. Xp had its own probs though.

Aye, I used the Vista Beta and I also used RC1 for a while. I decided then that there's no way I was going to be migrating to the new operating system until there's at least a service pack for it.

Just not worth it yet unless you use it for things other than gaming etc. Otherwise the only reasonable solution is to dual-boot and that's just a pain, might as well stick with Windows XP.

Agreed, they aint making it easy... As a previous poster said, before doing said links to driver.... they should have at least brought a new driver for Vista....

Vista isnt ahead it's behind.

5.1 doesnt work properly using programs like wmp.
Game performance is worse.
Has all kinds of security rubbish nobody needs (uac for example).
Some games don't work.

only advantages are :
Looks shinier (for some people this means it's nicer to use)
Better Caching into ram.
dx10.

Personally I gave up on vista after a day, couldn't stand searching for how to disable all the security rubbish, and listening through 2 speakers when in WMP, and having to confirm every .exe and download.

As for nvidia, meh I used to be a fanboi but now I hate them if they really stop xp support, now I'm going ati next time.

Exactly stick with XP until Vista SP1 at least. I whent down to Overclockers shop on saturday with my dad to get a new Hard drive and OS as he had an OEM xp so new operating system was needed. While i was drooling over the products on show in the shop my dad was unsure wether to go vista or not and was told by a sales assistant (not sure who) to stick with XP as lots of things are incompatible with vista so we ended up leaving the shop with a nice shiny new seagate barracuda 7200.10 200gb and XP home edition OEM.

In my opinion people who bought vista straight away are quite foolish, they should be patient and wait for bugs to be fixed and drivers sorted. Remember just coz its new doesnt mean its best ;)
