Nvidia Explains Why Their G-Sync Display Tech Is Superior To AMD's FreeSync

Right...Nvidia is flexing its marketing muscle I see :p

On the more serious note, I think the issue with Gsync is that beside the extra cost, they are not featured in monitors type/brand that people would be interested in the most.

Gsync being "better" than Freesync along is not enough...the horror and stressful experience of users trying to get a replacement for their faulty monitors with Acer and Asus could put off people buyng those brands, and that leaves with BenQ and AOC, which 144Hz monitor at 1920 res, which can be a no go for people that are after 2560 res or 4K even. Then there's the Philips 144Hz 1920 res monitor as well- and historically, their monitors simply ain't as good as other major monitors brands. Gsync need find its way in the more popular monitors brand and type/model, such as Samsung's, or 21:9 AOC/LG etc.

As it stand, Gsync monitors are a bit like the 3D Vision monitors in the pass, that people want to use the feature, they can only select from the limited range of monitors, which the monitor itself might not necessarily a monitor they actually want the most. So while Gsync itself is may be very good feature on its own right, it has its own flaw in terms of execution in terms of what they got available to choose from on the shelves.

Why would you want it to work down to 9Hz?

That far down, your not really having fun whether freesync is working or not.

It doesn't work like that either. The Swift just runs nice at 30Hz or above.

Another point in the article which Tom mentioned was the wat Freesync turns off over the refresh rate of the monitor and see's that as a plus for AMD and will be looking to do the same with G-Sync. For me, I like it as it is but having the option would be sweet.

Am i the only one who thinks this is on the panel manufactors and not AMD? I think its smart of nvidia to take control of both ends cause clearly they(panel dudes) dont know how to handle this new idea of variable refresh if the reports are to be trusted.

Heres my train of thought , feel free to correct where you think im wrong. VESA offers a new standard adaptive sync, manufactors choose to offer monitors with said standard but the scalers they use apparently are not up to snuff increasing the chance of ghosting(due to improper volt regulations and whatnot). I dont see AMD anywhere in this? Am i missing something?

Lol
The guy knows nothing if he believes the ghosting is from Freesync..

Can't be that much better if we go by the benchmark results from pcper.. Freesync you actually gain performance, little bit but least it's a gain.

The ghosting in my BenQ is the same ghosting I can make my older xl2420t do.. Mum that has no Freesync..

Those freesync performance "gains" if that's what you want to call them are well within margin of error. It even says that in the review itself, so it shows how much of it you read.

Read the article and you will see what he said :o

I did and he saying that FreeSync is ghosting because of the driver.. Well how come BenQ Ghost on Stock PreSet with or Without FreeSync? It has nothing "Zero" to do with Freesync!

Same on my old Display one reason I knew about changing the contrast down and switching to standard mode from FPS mode.

So again because PCper posted there results without even posting results without using Freesync or after the display been tweaked from stock.. Everyone now auto thinking Freesync is making games ghost LOL

No matter how much sense he seem to talk, it doesn't stop him from being biased, as all business do the same practise of exaggerating own strength and playing down its own flaws, while exaggerating competition's "issues" and playing down the merits (or not mentioning at all) of their competitions.

That's what marketing is all about.

Point out to me where he said Freesync is ghosting because of the driver? I can't see that at all.

!We don’t do that. We have anti-ghosting technology so that regardless of framerate, we have very little ghosting. See, variable refresh rates change the way you have to deal with it. Again, we need that module. With AMD, the driver is doing most of the work!.

Why is it my older BenQ ghost or this BenQ Ghost with or without "FreeSync" Once my settings changed and couple Test patterns later zero ghosting here..

That doesn't say Freesync is ghosting because of the driver though....

I will explain it:

He is saying that each G-Sync module is tuned to the panel, which seriously helps with Ghosting. He then says "With AMD, the driver is doing most of the work" (which is spot on) but he doesn't say at all that the ghosting is because of the driver. :o

Isn't the point that VRR makes ghosting worse due to the way the panel is being driven at different refresh rates? how can that not be a Freesync problem if NVidia have a solution to reduce it with G-Sync?

All monitors are DP1.3a compliant so clearly they meet the specification that AMD wanted.

Some people only see what they want.

I've just had this response from customer service:

Hi there

I have just been informed by Gibbo that these cant be returned for Ghosting as its not a fault with the monitor.

Bailey

So if it's not the monitor causing it then what is

I got given an RMA number yesterday now get told this.
