NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ 55nm PREVIEW REVIEW !!!

4850's (and indeed ATI's overall) strength lies in it's Crossfire implementation.

SLI is decent enough, but it requires a nVidia motherboard. It's SLI's biggest downfall imo.

Despite that it is still price and performance wise matched with the 4850...?

Sure it draws more power but its been touted that the 4850 runs very hot.

Anyway, i don't know why i am debating this, im getting neither and am gonna stick with my GTX for a while longer.

Sorry. That actually looks like a blunt response from me but it wasn't meant in that way.

It's just that the die shrink hasn't done much for it. Also to reach GTX+ speeds then all you need to do to a normal 9800GTX is overclock it slightly. It seems as if the die shrink hasn't brought the efficiency with it. It's not far off from the 8800GTS (G92) that transformed into the 9800GTX which was quite a disappointment in my eyes after seeing G80 GTX and G92 GT and GTS. GTX 280 has impressed me a lot though but the price tag is far too much for the performance IMO. Especially it's looking that way with the new ATI cards right now.

My 8800GTX can hit 90'C, around the same as the 4850's and it's fine. My X1900XT was hot as have been all the cards I've had. My overclock of any CPU, RAM and graphics on multiple systems hasn't been affected by this before so I'm not going to start worrying now. I'm thinking about X2 4870 which isn't out till August I think and I'm keeping my GTX for now also but we can still discuss :).

A 9800 GTX would fit in my case (Lian Lis ***), but my PSU only has one PCI-E 6/8 pin connector, and I wouldn't be willing to sacrifice two of my molex connectors for that fairly small performance difference, especially considering the 9800 GTX+ will be slightly more expensive on average.

Yeh i could be tempted by the 4870 depending on how fast they turn out to be. However i have a feeling i won't be seduced into getting a new graphics card until something seriously mind blowing in terms of performance comes out.

Hopefully something like that will turn up near the end of the year or early 2009.
