NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 GPU Box/specs

my X1950GT was a colorful, good little card, my old chap still has one in his machine

Overall this card is like the Uclid dump truck of GFX cards, big, hot and drinks a shed load of fuel!

when i bought my pair of GTX295's i was told i would need 90+ amps of 12v, so i checked on the nvidia site for recommended PSU's ended up shelling out for an Enermax 1250w.
put a power meter inbetween PSU and socket (230v) played Crysis on v.high 1920x1200...and the power meter showed a maximum of 500watts! so even purely 12v thats only 42amp

The rest of the system was 920 @ 4ghz, Asus Rampage, 6gig Dominator, 2x750gig RAID & 2x pioneer DVD.

So take the PSU recommendations with a pinch of salt.

yours only draws 500w at full load? mines nearly double that at 936 @ full load.
power supply is around 83% efficient at that load, cpu nots clocked, one stick more ran, and i suppose water cooling loops and drives add up, but DAMN thats a lot of difference.

Could be that since I play at 2560 i push the cards harder?

I panicked when this thread was necromanced and I saw 42a on 12v, then I remembered my PSU is 40a on EACH rail for 80 combined.

Not obsolete just yet. :p

Just running Crysis isn't the best way to measure how demanding your PC is, try running Prime95 and Vantage at the same time and see what your meter is reading then.

Prine 95 on 3 cores small ffts + furmark is how i measure load stuffs. Find the draw is a little more leaving one core for furmark to do its stuff.

In actual use, I havent seen over 850 odd draw. Weirdly, my idle draw has gone down by 48w since I turned off EIST and C1E along with raising my NB/SB voltages....WTF?

Tested with Crysis

Do this ^^

Tons of GTX280 models state they require 42A....the reference GTX 285 requires 42A.....seriously, why are people making such a big deal about this? Did they really expect Nvidia's big monolithic launch model to be an eco-warrior's dream card?

Because too many people are stupid :p

This is the GFX forum, WTF you doing here if your not interested in performance, trolling?? now you can go get laid somemore, now run along he's waiting.

Just like the CPU forum, some may be interested in bang per buck, power consumption or whichever aspect they may find interesting or want when considering a graphics card .
