NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 Reference Design Graphics Card Pictured

waits for jokes about wood and screws:rolleyes:
You're barking up the wrong tree I'm afraid. I've been pining for a thread like this, but turns out it's knot what I expected. I didn't realise this would be such a poplar subject. That said, it's not to late for evergreen nvidia to turn over a new leaf! :p

Then every single time bar no exceptions someone asks you what these calculations are.......... and you don't respond, you also never link to a rumour you heard when asked to, and afaik, you've never been close to right with one of your guesses.

My claims about the 5800 series specs were correct - at a time when only Charlie and my source for that info were making claims of those precise specifications... the performance gains I stated for the 5870 over the nVidia 200 series were also dead on. I also made claims about the launch prices of the 5800 series which were wildly different to anyone elses, took a lot of ridicule for and they were exactly right...

I think I was posting on another forum about the 4800 series but that info was for the vast majority correct too - all of which came from the same sources that I'm referring to now... as I said it goes against what I would have expected but they've been right 99/100 in the past.

As for the figures I posted above they are based on the range from at the low end simply extrapolating 6850/6970 performance and the high end of whats possible with the hardware given the TDP and the planned architecture and changes over barts.

November could turn out to be an interesting month if this is true.

"Better, improved, hot and fast

We came across some interesting information regarding Nvidia's response to Cayman. The new chip from Nvidia, codenamed GF110 is going to launch in November, most likely before Cayman. AMD set its launch date around November 20 and Nvidia is likely to launch the GF110 a bit earlier.

It is not only that the chip will have more than 480 cores, we dare not say 512, but all these cores will be improved. Nvidia had more than a year to work on this mid-life kicker, something that can compete with AMD's Cayman and could likely end up as the fastest GPU on the market.

First reports indicate that it will get available for around $499 but this will very much depend on Cayman performance and pricing.

The cards are in production as we speak, almost ready to ship at launch. Now its all a matter of politics and deciding when to launch them. As the winter in the northern hemisphere draws near the Cayman and the GF110 will come in quite handy, as both will generate enough heat to keep gamers cozy at sub-zero temperatures."

I'm guessing it must be loosely based on the GF104 design as absolutely no ones reported any significant new nVidia designs being taped.

I never suggested anyone take it as gospel. I actually thought the information was published when I made my post.

Nvidia has always held the fast gpu crown in each generation as far back as I can remember. Its something they always aim for.

Not the best thing to aim for these days though, ati learned that with their last large chip the 2900xt. 480 is the fastest gpu but as we all know its not what it was meant to be.

Didn't Fudzilla say something similar about GF100 last year? Seems odd that it's in November again. :p

Not that I'm really in the loop any more in that regard but I find it odd that nothing at all has come across my radar in regard to the 580... for something thats supposedly coming out within a month I'd have liked to think I'd have heard more about it by now.

Let's hope it isn't just a high binned GF100 then...
