Well with the what happened with the 970 memory fiasco there's no way NVidia would do the same again and not tell people upfront surely ? Of course it is possible that they think the tech sites wont find out, just like last time and that went well didn't it. :)

Yer, NVidia won't make that mistake again but I do feel that it was all blown well out of proportion and having used a 970 myself, I have seen nothing of what was supposed to have been there (not saying it wasn't there but not on the drivers I have used).
 
If i was in the market for a new card id wait till evga bring out a hybrid version, the 980 seems very quiet with it :) Obviously need 2 for a decent bump over the 295x2. Still makes my stomach groan the thought of shelling out a grand for 2 cards, wasn't that long ago 2 top ends were £600 ish :(
 
I might add a slight caveat though, I do *not* want a cut down chip (like the 970 ****** with its slower added-on memory). If it has then I'll probably hold on for a good TX s/hand deal...
