*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

Just recieved a message from a friend who also ordered a 3080 ROG Strix OC. Apparently overclockers said to him over the phone that these cards arent arriving until Nov/Dec.

I wonder how many KG

So the next big question is, I wonder how many GPU's I can fit in a 23KG allowance suitcase. We need to do some GPU math...

if it's any help, last time I came back through China my case was about 30KG (I bought a guitar and dismantled it into my suitcase :p) and they didn't even bat an eye. Was fully prepared to pay the ~£50 overweight fee but nope, got it free.

This is a good example of when people should be allowed to switch cards still. Buying something in september without any indication that even the first people will be waiting 3 months is a bit unfair.

First time poster and first time builder here, please be patient with me!

I've got a non-OC Strix order in at 340 in queue, which is pretty much the last thing I was waiting on to finish my new computer (except a drive or two and an OS); the dying laptop it replaces apparently runs on a GTX 1050.

I am starting to think it might be more desirable (as the laptop is deteriorating and has been in for repair three times now) to cancel this, as Strix 3080s in general don't seem to be in a hurry, get something like a 2070 SUPER, then next year when the queues and competition starts to clear out on the 3080 / Big Navi equivalent, look at one of these nice new cards then?

I would assume if my games run well enough on a GTX 1050, then a 2070 SUPER in a desktop with a substantially better CPU and more memory would be noticeably better performing either way.

(Not to derail too much, but also if a 2070 SUPER would be worthwhile, any recommendations which one from OCUK I should pick?)

Tried to fill in the Google form including my webstore number but no matter what combination I tried to submit it always complained:

This number should be prefixed with OC and start with a 4, not a 5

I've filled in without anyhow.

This was me with the Strix OC order, high up the list, and OC CS told me this on the day that they stopped people from changing their order and keeping place in the queue. I just cancelled and got my money back. I will get a card elsewhere. Already bought my new SSD from someone else, and the rest of the cash I was going to spend here this year........

As much as I’d like any solid indication of date for the Strix 3080s (as it seems to be rumours and whispers right now) actually knowing when at least wouldn’t have effected my card choice, I knew I wanted the Strix design the second I saw it and getting the card I actually wanted as soon as I can means more than getting any old 3080 I didn’t personally like the look of, so I can forever regret my choice (or at least until I inevitably upgrade when we see a new shiny gpu). But that’s just my personal opinion

Are you joking lol I have a 2070 and can run almost every game on max settings on a 2k monitor so yes it will be 100%+ better

I figured it would be much better, but I'm not making any assumptions.
I am very much at the experience level where I read things in the manual and go "does that mean... a thing?" and sit on forums for half an hour - I can tell that the 2070 is way better but I don't know I'd pick out the minutiae that separates good from bad or any flaws with particular ones.

Hence my original plan to go with Strix on a new thing, as I just associate that name with "good" and see basically every online rating sets it higher. (Hopefully better knowledge will come with experience.) :)

(Edited for legibility.)

which, if true, would be fine, but can we get some official word on it so we can settle in and wait instead of checking the forums several times a day looking for news!

What monitor are you using? Is it 1080p? 1440p? 4k?60hz? 144hz?

All depends on what monitor you are using. If playing at 1080p a 2070 super is more than overkill probably. But whatever you do, if you buy a non 3000 series card right now, definitely buy second hand otherwise you will regret it.

At the moment 1080p 60Hz, until I get a better monitor as my laptop screen itself was my go to originally (though I could find the money to do this and get a second hand card for the amount of a 3080.)

Thanks for the advice.
