nVidia GT300 - GeForce GTX 380 yields are sub-30%

Unless you have _deep_ pockets, I'd suspect that buying a 5870 now and a second one for crossfire down the line is the most cost effective move forward.

You are probably right enough, though I usually wait a while after a card gets released until the prices drop before I go and buy them.

Hard to say... personally I'd go for the 295GTX at £200 if the 5870 was ~£300... but above that it would be a hard call... tho my perspective is prolly skewerd a bit as I already have a v. capable 260GTX SLI setup.

But then ATI would drop the 5850, remember there the DirectX11 monopoly atm so they charge what they want until Nvidia's cards come along.

ha ha............ i think it might be best to wait, i wont have the dosh till next spring anyway........... by then everything will have settled down, but i would much rather buy Nvidia; because i always have.

i've actually got my eye on the GTX300 X2, that is; if they make this monster:cool:

but it all boils down to the price by next May.......... i'm very budget orientated..... i want maximum power at minimum cost.

that 5800 thread is a total joke...........it's way too early to place an order yet........it's much wiser to wait till all of them have been released

DX 11 means nothing to me, it's all about maximum frame rates only........you'll get excellent quality with everything maxed out anyway, regardless of it being DX10 or 11...if your monitor is too old/low spec/ your eyesight hasn't been tested for years........then you're almost definitely wasting your time worrying about DX 11, because it's only a slight improvement on DX 10

Interesting comments, and I thought everyone on here just wanted the biggest e-peen :D

Not being a fan boy of either brand , and still running a Opteron and a 8800GTX , I just want the best bang for buck , and a card that will 'do the job'.

I have quite a few games that I want to play graphically maxed out but until I get a better balanced system (which I'm building now bit by bit) I can wait.

I'll have a look around for maybe a GTX285 at a good price as it will do what I want it to do without paying through the nose for a spanking new graphics monster on release.

Looking forward to seeing how these new ATI cards perform in the 'real world' ;)

yes, but it's a recession isn't it and i think people are getting wise to the Hype..........

you need a top end card, but you dont need to go crazy..... the other problem is, there aint many new FPS QUALITY games coming out, so twin MARS or something crazy like this, is a total waste of money.

10 new games a year yes, but only 2 or 3.......... no a total waste of money

There's a recession?

Got £700 here wating to drop on a pair of cards - whoever comes out with a pair of single gpu cards that performs the best for £700 within the next week gets my money.

Yields are fine, Nvidia confirmed.

After a lot of rumours about bad yields with GT300, Nvidia has decided to talk to us and give us a simple quote about the state of its next generation 40nm product line.

Senior manager from Nvidia has told Fudzilla that “Our (Nvidia’s) 40nm yields are fine. The rumors you are hearing are baseless.”

This comes after some stories that GT300 yields are really bad and that next generation Nvidia is in really bad shape. According to AMD’s competitive analysis team, only nine chips should work per wafer, but they got this number due to a bad translation and we can definitely dismiss this number as completely inaccurate information.

As we've said before, the chip we call GT300 is a completely new design and it simply could not come out earlier. Nvidia certainly doesn’t like the fact that ATI is first with new technology again, but it comforts them that they can make its DirectX 11 faster.

You can expect a lot of architectural changes - the chip is completely redesigned and much faster than the GT200 generation. We would not be surprised if Nvidia starts talking about the chip ahead of official announcement as it currently hurts from positive Radeon 5870 reviews around the globe.

I think right now we have to take that statement with a pinch of salt as what else are they going to do they are having a hard enough time at the minute without confirming any problems there might be. It might be completely accurate and honest but you cannot expect nvidia to confirm they are having problems and until an independent source confirms it i will assume it is perfectly normal corporate damage limitation. Same as we saw with ati qa while back with the whole r600 affair.

I think the fact that ATI has beaten them to the next generation indicates that there are problems with manufacturing.

It's not like they did a mid-gen refresh like with the 4890, as IIRC the GTX275 is simply one GPU from a GTX295?

I'll still stand by my estimation of Q1 2010, probably February.

it would be ideal if they was putting it production, ATI needs a rivel in the DX11 market so they can't go wild on the price.

this may be good news for all of us, not so much for ATI as they have to find a way to counter it, but for prices

I would love nvidia to have gt3xx out soon as i think ati needs the competition to get their prices down a little. I am just not sure this is anymore then damage limitation right now given the mostly positive reviews of the 5 series i really hope i am wrong.

uuuummm, i think you'll find there's still a huge market for the GTX 300..especially if it's more powerful and not too expensive..... will it be more powerful?.......... would you release a top end card with less grunt than the competion....no way!

but will it's Drivers work ok.......... well yea' no idea.. but they'll probably be ok by next MAY.........

i'm not too convinced by having DX 11, as such; i've got my beady eye on the Asus Mars...but May is one hell of a long time away....because you might find that a GTX 300 X2 is as powerful as Mars...why not!...................but you can forget 1000 quid.... no more than 500

Are you retarded? ASUS MARS is nothing more than 2 2GB 285 cores in one card; it's barely 10%-15% faster than a regular 295. Two 2GB 285s in SLI already beat the Mars, and will certainly overclock much higher (Mars is a furnace, overclocking headroom is crippled).

A hypothetical "GTX 300x2" model should be expected to exponentially destroy it.

Don't buy the freakin' Asus freakin' Mars. Freakin'.
