nVidia GT300 - GeForce GTX 380 yields are sub-30%

the 5870 is more powerful than the GTX 295

The fact is that the GTX295 is about 20% faster than the HD5780. This benchmark ( clike here) shows that the GTX295 is faster than the HD5780 by 12% that this is not 100% true because they didn’t include games with physX and also they didn’t include new games ex. Batman, red faction guerrilla, Need for Speed Shift that perform terrible with ati cards(in fact the GTX285 is much faster than the HD5780 in these games simple because ati have to release hotfix for a lot of new games in order to perform properly, that is what you get with ati you have to wait for hotfix like always). The GTX295 is 9 months old and still ati can not release a card that can beat the GTX295 hopefully the 5870x2 will do that. Also do not forget that the GTX295 OC very well (can hit 680MHz-core very easily and even more 710MHz+) but the HD5780 is bad at OC.

no i wasn't, i made a genuine **** up :D:D..

but my basic point still stands........... it's too early to buy now, because something red hot is bound to come from Nvidia soon

You have been talking about the Mars in threads for ages you should know that its not worth the money in performance.

I think people are forgetting that the HD58XX is on inmatture drivers and the HD5870 can overclock, just that ATI chose to keep the voltage low, I think you may find it can overclock as well as the HD4890 particualy if the asus one

when has a new, single gpu ever conclusively beaten the last gen's fastest two cards in sli/crossfire?

never.

when I seen the HD5870 it was all over the GTX295 unless the game happened to like dual core cards...so wrongly informed I believe or just likes Nvidia :p

Even IF nvidia bring out the gt300 at the end of this year, realistically because of the cost involved will we even need a more powerful card than a 5870?
Even a gtx295 is overkill for 99% of setups.

I do strongly believe once openCL becomes abit more mianstream and ATI sort the psychics out in this department, there will be no reason to go nvidia unless you want 3D vision. And if you want a multi monitor setup, which is becoming more popular by the day, that will be another £230+ on top of the already overpriced cards from nvidia.

I do believe ATI will just get stronger and stronger, and tbh i do hope ATi/AMD do really good out of this, i wouldnt mind seeing some strong competition within their CPU's again, on the high end of sides.

is it just me or is that terribly biased? Also im sure if ATI actually thought they needed to beat the gtx295, they couldve but would it have actually made any profit? They've obviously been working on the 58** for a long time now and its paid off very well for them.

Taking out the games with abnormal spikes, i.e. games with physx or where SLI doesn't work - my 260GTX SLI at stock which is ballpark 295GTX performance - was 14% slower on average of all the benchmarks I could compare than a 5870... my 260GTX cards will both OC by 25% :)

Monitors are expensive, 2 alone could set you back £600.. i dont think multi monitor is going to become really popular just like that.

Well its already got a quite a big fan base, and now eyefinity has opened doors to people that have never realised this is possible?

And the cost, is no were near that, if i was going to go 3x22" setup that would set me back approx £420 for some very good samsungs.

the only "multi" monitor gaming thats worth anything IMO is 2-4 HD projectors :D

3840x2160 any one?

Personally i think ATI have advertised Multi-mon gaming badly, most people are complaining about bezels etc.

Now if they advertised in their shows setups with a odd number of monitors like most people do, this would actually show people how much better it is than people think.

The massive amount of FOV, is one of the best upgrades you can do, especially if your into MMO's and RPG's.

I agree with that £420 is very good for 3, but the thing i hate about my samsung is the damn backlight bleed.. it seems you have to pay a lot if you want a well balanced LCD, unless the issues such as that are gone now. i had my 22" 2 years or so ago.

Well ive had my 2253BW since last mid november, which i got for £143, and i have to say its perfect. The colours seem great, and i havn't seen no backlight bleed what so ever. One of the best purcashes ive done for a long time.

And ive recently seen some benQ 2420HD 24" monitors for £149, which is a very good buy, they may not be a £600 Dell but i have heard good things about them.
