** NVIDIA GTX 1070: WANNA PRE-ORDER?**

I don't know that you can blame the customers any more than you can blame a dog for chasing a ball. Nvidia make the ball, they know we go nuts for it, they keep picking it up and throwing it and we go chasing after... again, again, and again. AMD need to make a nice attractive ball and not throw it so far!

Why would they though? They know people will pay inflated prices so they will want to cash in too

There wasn't a jump from the 780Ti to the 970. Upon release the 780Ti was faster. Over time nVidia gimped Kepler drivers so it looked like the 970 was an improvement over the 780Ti.

I think I worded that poorly. What I meant was the jump in performance 970 got relative to it's own tier. If you compare the situation, on the same node, you see 970 getting very close to 780Ti and bring the price of that tier of performance down to ~£250.

Then now let us fast forward to today. Two node shrinks later and new architecture, what do we get in comparison? We cannot buy 980Ti performance for ~£250 and we got TWO note shrinks this time.. That is crazy, relative to the past :(

No matter which way you look at it, we are being over charged here IMO.

That's not logical. They are just aware that they can continually fleece their loyal customers who don't really think for themselves. NVidia is constantly screwing anyone over they can, the gaming industry and their own loyal fans are the ones that get screwed the most.

It's a business, they do it to make money, not to keep 'spoffle' happy. I agree the prices are stupid and therefore, being an adult with self control, choose not to part with my money but wait for a better deal to come along.

Crying and whining will not help. All the 1070s on OCUK sold out on Day 1. The market carried the price they wanted for their goods. Why lower it?

Don't blame the companies, if you want to blame somebody, blame your peers for allowing Nvidia to get away with these prices.

Because they need the market share, and they don't have the brand and marketing power that Nvidia do. Consequently they simply couldn't release a card equivalent to the 1070 at 1070 prices tmrw... it would have to undercut it to succeed. It's why they've gone for the lower end of the market with the 480, so they can build from that. We will see what comes next from them, but they are a distant second to Nvidia and know they need to come up with the goods at an attractive price to gain ground.

Fair point, and I could even agree with these people. It's your money, have at it. But hey ho, when Volta comes around at 700 bucks a card, we'll have exactly the same wailing again from the usual crowd. Directing their anger at the wrong entity when their peers are to blame.

It's also about then I'll pick up a 1080 for 150 bucks because someone suddenly realised their 1080 SLI configuration dropped below 200fps for 0.0015 of second on a 3 year old game and it's time to upgrade that dirt :p

I'm holding out for a couple of months to see where we stand come end of August. Our baby will be here by then so might be able to free up some funds :D

So if I pre-order a 1070...what gains am I going to make/see/notice over the 980 I'm using at the moment ?....do I wait it out ..or go for it ?

Plenty of reviews out there on the web, go check them out and decide for yourself. :)

P.S. Only 1 EVGA 1070 FE left, but 100 more due end of this week. :)
