Nvidia GTX680 or ATI 7950

last ati card i had for a reasonable length of time was a 5850 had loads of problems with drivers and vowed i wouldnt get another ati again hopefully there a lot better now as there is something about the 7950 thats tempting me especially that £293 one here :)

Using a 7950 here runs bf3 All High settings 1080p and vsynced I get 60 FPS all the time never drops below 55.
If you like me and only play with a 1080p display and limited to 60fps a 7950 will do you great.
:)

i think thats what ill do :)

Wouldn't be me.

If so then he's better of with the 7950. Losing 50% on a £300 card is better than losing 50% on a £400 card.

Losing 50% on a highly clocked 7850 is the wise mans choice!

Get another one in a couple of months if need be when the offers come rolling in(and AMD sort out CrossFire) and you will be laughing.

2 highly clocked 7850's will slaughter any of the 79's/6's gpu's in single oc'ed guise.

and will cost the same as 1 680 and more than 1 7950.....

and the amd sorting crossfire out is what worries me, if they havent sorted it yet are they ever likely too?

I could retaliate by changing it to another vendors problem with their flagship card in particular(as they all have their problems of course), but I shall refrain as there are loads of them crying with it's nasty f.f.f.f.f.fault.;)

Owners are still crying,(with some having downright rage) from one of their last gen's gpu's downright nasty problem that simply makes gaming impossible:eek:, as it's still not been fixed one year later.

Still, as a non scientific analysis the stigma of having poor drivers isn't there without reason. No smoke without a fire as they say ;).

And just from reading the forums, the amount of people having driver related issues is proportionally higher towards the AMD side as well. This forums is my no means a clean cross section of the high end GPU community but as I said: completely non scientific :)

Never had issues myself except with 4850 crossfire. Which was terrible driver wise.

AMD's problems get more 'vocal' airtime than Nvidia's problems on general forums.

Perfect example here:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18386230

680 PCI-e 3 issue(albeit not anything huge but still an issue), but look how many replies there was...

... a big fat zero!

If the shoe was on the other foot, it would be pages long, fact!;)

Here's another one:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18393942

It's a genuine problem but doesn't get much airtime at all outside the Nvidia forum, if it was AMD's problem there would be loads of folks sticking the boot in the thread, but that's just the way it goes.

'Here are some things which can help us repro this issue:

1) Name of game, in game graphic settings (screenshot will do) and if you have a save game you can share to load the game at the point where game stutters, even better
2) How long do you need to play to see the stutter?
3) Please include your monitor make and model
4) Have you tried to set your power management mode from adaptive to performance in NVIDIA Control Panel?

Last but not least, if anyone live near NVIDIA headquarters in Santa Clara and could bring their system over to show off the issue, it would help us out a lot.'

The bedroom comedians would be out in force with that one.

The CTD issue as well, I can only imagine the outcry on this forum alone if it was with the red team.

Not implying at all that either driver sets are better than the other in the slightest, they can both be **** at times and downright stink other times.

Granted. But I don't think pointing out a couple of issues (either way) really proves anything. I'm not a fanboy by any means but it's the volume and levels of issues that people tend to have more of with AMD over nVidia which causes the stigma I feel.

I don't think it's completely unjustified to be fair although I agree, blown out of proportion.
