Nvidia Is Happy With The Performance Of Fermi

handbags at 30 paces in here... what was this thread about again?

I think it was asking the question of how Nvidia feel they are doing now ATI have surpassed them and how will they respond. But it looks like the question was put to someone at nvidia with a PHD in talking ********, instead.

The GF100 is nothing but pie in the sky.

bottom line is that if nvidia had good numbers they'd talk them. untill they do they will talk it up just to try and convince people to wait till fermi.

Nvidia is expected to delay its next-generation DirectX 11-supporting GPU (Fermi) to March, 2010, while AMD will launch more GPUs in January-February, according to sources from graphics card makers.

Nvidia originally scheduled to launch Fermi in November 2009, but was delayed until CES in January 2010 due to defects, according to market rumors. However, the company recently notified graphics card makers that the official launch will now be in March 2010, the sources noted.

Except nVidia never originally scheduled Fermi for launch in Nov 09... until AMD released DX11 parts that is... and nVidia suddenly dreamed up some release date probably in and attempt to stem sales to AMD.

The part that was supposed to be going to market in Sept/Nov 09 from nVidia was based on the 212 core, 40nm, DX10.1.

When did Nvidia say they would be selling DX10.1 200 cards in November ?

Nvidia said DX10.1 was useless and the would not be supporting it :o

The GT240, GT220 and G210 are from that line of graphics cards (they're both 40nm and support DX10.1), I'd say Rroff is likely correct. GT212, what should've been a high end GT200 derivative on the 40nm process, as reported by Charlie Demerjian (take what you will from this, but it's certainly not an invention of Rroff's), was allegedly canned.

Edit: To expand on this, the only site that was reporting that GT300 would come before 2010 was Fudzilla. They only stopped after Nvidia made it very apparent that they wouldn't release it then. I think Fuad was just telling porkies, and those desperate for a quick recovery from Nvidia just latched onto the rumour and perpetuated that myth.

Either way you look at it, it’s bad for the consumer right now. I was hoping for a cheap upgrade over Christmas and was contemplating a 5770, but with the market as it is and demand and prices high I have decided to hold fire. I don’t think one 5770 alone is the performance I am after so would need a pair for around 220 for a decent upgrade. When I only paid 50-65 a card for my current pair that price is a little high.

I know the outlook is bleak and trash talk high but I hope nvidia surprise us with femi, as long as the chip performs and they can scale that architecture back we could see some competition in both the mid range and at the top end.

I know its kinda arguing semantics... nvidia missed the boat and nothing changes that... but to say its delayed is actually wrong... I'm not saying nvidia had a signed pinned to the wall saying "Fermi must be released 11th March 2010" but it was always on the books to come out after the 200 series refresh which was towards the end of 09.

200 series refresh?

Last performance card to come from nVidia was April, and I wouldn't even really call the GTX275 a "refresh" - it was released because the GTX260-216 was unable to compete with the HD4890.

Probably the last proper refresh was about a year ago - GTX260-216 and GTX285, as well as the dual-chip GTX295?

I take it you've basically ignored everything I've said in this thread up til now and jumped on that one post lol...

Well you've been banging on about 'lateness' and stuff like that for quite a while now - I couldn't care less what nVidia said would be the estimated date.

All I noticed is that you put the GT200 series refresh was 'end of 09' - i'm assuming you meant the low-end parts?

So basically you've gone to the effort of posting how you don't care having not even bothered to take in the contents of what I'm actually saying... lol.

If you bothered to cast an eye over the earlier posts I've made you might notice mention of the 212 cores.

Or you can carry on making cranky comments without having a clue what I'm talking about.

I think you're the one guilty of that Rroff.

Especially given as that would have sufficed in the first place.

That's fine. It's just that there are some old people around, who need things repeated.

I'm such a GayBoy :p
