I really think you should consider a gtx 260, they are really getting very cheap atm, i use an xfx 260 xt and had no problem getting the core to 700, yes the 275 has more shaders but really (you are right in thinking the perfomance difference is not worth the extra cash).
Driverheaven reviewed the asus gtx260 matrix and it was outperforming the 275 in their benchmarks. Yes you could oc the 275 but tbh who knows how long you might be waiting.
Otherwise have a look on 'that' auction site, I'm sure Iread a thread here where someone picked up a 275 for £130,
275 seems to have better minium frames tho: http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews.php?reviewid=778&pageid=11, http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews.php?reviewid=778&pageid=7 ,
+ this card doesnt come pre-overclocked. You still have to overclock it which you can do with the gtx 275 and get very good results. Seems a bit of a pointless arguement really.

in both min and avg frames.

). Even the 3800 series had the same problems but ATI addressed this with close to 50% power efficiency plus nearly half of the price to redeem themselves for the failure. Give them time and what did they do?. Ta-da!!! 4800 series
