NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

its an absolute shame that in this day n age you have to go thru extraordinary measures just to bag a GPU on day one.

Nvidia could have made enough to go around but they havnt learnt anything since 30 n 40 series either.

How do you know there isn't enough to go around, are you from the future..?
It's currently all speculation and FOMO which leads to more speculation and FOMO

The 40 series had plenty of stock on release, the 4090 was very easy to get and the 4080/4070 were in stock everywhere on launch. It wasn't like the 30 series with covid and mining blowing things way out of proportion.

If there are stock shortages this time around it's down to FOMO and it's made worse by people on forums acting like it's a given fact. FOMO also drives up prices. I guarantee even here on OCUK the prices will be at least 5% higher than they would have been because they can see people on the forums talking about how they're going to buy one pretty much regardless of cost, asap. The amount of FOMO around here will drive prices up and will lead to people like yourself feeling that they need to jump through hoops to get a card. It's a vicious circle

Firstly, 4090 was not easy to get, it was sold out here and on basically all the retailers and took a few months to restock, secondly, I do agree, but we aren't saying this randomly, there's very good quality sources and rumors that indicate the 5090 is gonna be a paper launch, now obviously again these are rumors but you have to be realistic too, every gpu launch has sold out, this one is no difference, you might as well prepare to give yourself the best chance

The suggestion is most cards are going to the US before Trump tariffs come in, only a few to Europe

Fear of missing out
And it's what's happening. People are considering buying an overpriced 5090 on day 1, fearing that cheaper variants will be out of stock for months
The older I get, the more I realize FOBI (Fear Of Being Included) is a far more sane line of reasoning.

Edit: It is a 100% given that demand will far exceed supply for the launch. I also know for certain that there are scalper operations with 1000s of bot-driven accounts with retailers programmed to hit the sites relentlessly at 9am on the 30th. Even the top-range, lower-resale ROI models e.g. Strix, Waterforce are being targeted.

The days of a human just rocking up to a site on launch day to buy a product are over.

Stock shortages may well be down to FOMO, and agree there are plenty of beager beavers on this forum, however the GB202 chip is nearing the reticle limit of silicon, which is c.800mm squared. Nvidia know the value of this silicon and i can guarantee you 95% of it is going to their DC business.

"The problem however is the person who can afford a 5090 already has all those other items so the opportunity cost becomes less relevant"

Not aimed at any one person but I see this logic all the time and it makes no sense. This is a child's level of thinking. Plenty of people who are not wealthy by any stretch buy highly expensive graphics cards. I did it when I was on minimum wage - it's called saving up for a long time to get something you really want.

Quite literally this, im not on min wage, but im not on an amazing wage either. Its taken me a good few years to get my setup to how it is now, through second hand parts and new. I was also lucky enough to make a small bit of money on some stocks which i sold to reinvest and some to keep for a 5090. If your smart with money, little or large amounts, you can grow it. Dont have to be rich to afford some luxuries in life.

It's taken me six months to build my system, and leave enough over for a new GPU. It's actually really satisfying to get there in the end. I left the GPU until the end because I knew new cards were close, but part of me wishes I'd just got a 4080 Super and avoided the stress of the 30th :)

its rewarding when you eventually get it all saved up and the build complete! Thing is, if you were to have gotten a 4080s, would you have regretted it so close to the launch of a 5080? Im hoping the 30th doesnt go too bad, and everyone here is able to get the card they had their eyes on. Luckily, ive got it off work to give me a chance at one!

I don’t think that on the 5090 anyway, there will be much to be made for scalpers, the base price for relatively little gain is already high enough.

I think 5090fe could be nearly all scalped mind.

Yeah that's true. I'd probably just have avoided forums like this for a while :). I hope everyone gets their cards. I work from home so I've blanked a couple of hours out of my diary on the 30th. Fingers crossed!

HMRC Connect will now use your post as evidence to ensure you've paid CGT on your asset disposal

I have no idea where you saw plenty of stock on the 4090 release. I seem to remember them selling out very quickly and overclockers and other competitors websites coming to a crawl.. i remember it taking me a good few attempts to get my order through and luckily i was quick enough to get it on release and delivered the next day.

One thing i will say and i have said it before... there was a post by Gibbo a day or so before relase of 4090 stock.. he listed all the cards and advised whether they had a High or low stock Volume and some they had none of at all.

So keep an eye out for that, he may do it again. The prices wont be listed but at least you know if you have a better chance of getting one if you order a card the has higher stock volume.
