NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Has anyone from OCUK got a Zotac 5090 Solid? The normal one.
Rumours on reddit are that people got some.
Probably will be a long wait for zotac because they have a discord loyalty partner program to sell direct to customers, so they will probably get the cards first before people trying to buy from retailers

one person  goddamn, Nvidia flooding the mkt

was actiually curious about fab production..so $20B in US, $10B in far east due to xheaper labour, better supply chain and less red tape. US and Europe really need to get their act together to compete

As I've said before, if Trump tariffs forces chip manufacturers to move to the US, it will push up the cost of all technology products worldwide. In addition to which something like 90% of the world's chip silicon is extracted from quartz in China so the US manufacturers will have to import the raw mats from China anyway pushing up costs further. Trump is dumb AF

That's only for the US though, so it'd be rather odd them reducing all the other countries supplies.

I thought Zotac were a brand that would be quicker to supply than the like of Asus and MSI, because bulk of the pre-orders are for the top tier brand, but there are supply issues and Zotac seems to have the slowest turn around for their cards, I emailed them and they literally said 4 months and that may be a worse case scenario because of the crazy pre-orderers in every country of the world then you have this missing ROPS issue that will delay thing s a bit more

I want to be wrong and say a few weeks but the current situation looks bleak, i'll be honest, it will be quicker to just get lucky and buy a card on random drops than wait on a pre-order

Remember the 30 series Oct/Nov pre-orders, people got their cards Feb/March, the majority of the pre orders were cancelled after 3/4 months

Also guys

Those who have pre-ordered on a credit card:

If you have a balance of £100 and an interest rate of 24.9%, you'll be charged £2.08 per month in interest, now you can work out a monthly interest on a 5090

Then times that by 3 months

Let me know how much interest that is for you on your credit card

Makes you wonder how many they're making a day if they can only send single digits to a country, in a one month period, lol.

Ooooft! But let's be real, no one is doing that here. If you can't afford to pay off your CC in full after buying a 5090 then you clearly cannot afford one in the first place :D Does that stop people? Of course not. I also completely disagree with having to stump up the full cost for a pre-order, but there are so few places selling GPUs that it is common practice unfortunately.

£0 as that bad boy gets paid off in full each month. Looking forward to March’s direct debit coming out from my account when the 5090 becomes a reality and I’m probably in the same place in the queue :D

… having a credit card does not mean you just let debt sit there and don’t pay it off :o :p

It’ll get added to the balance that needs to be cleared by the end of the relevant period. So there will typically be be an interest free period of ~3-7 weeks.

So the interest will potentially be £0 if you pay it off in full by the due date.

they're not being forced too. Biden chip act is paying billions for tsmc to build fabs over there so they become self reliant...guess those cash handouts negate the extra cost of building over there...once manufacturing starts, there wont be a tariff on the end product, and a tariff on the raw materials of 10% is pocket change compared to the final price. The existings fabs then wont have to supply the US and wont be subject to the tariffs, nor will the markets they sell to, unless they too impose tariffs, which i very much doubt. it will however increase the supply side of things, as they'll be a lot more fabs producing wafers

there will be some turbulence in the meantime as supply routes are reorganised. A bit like oil price. Shot thru the rough when russia invaded ukraine and then Europe stopped importing...but price is now down to where it was before they invaded(actually lower now)..it's just the the trade routes are all different..russian oil that went to Europe is now going to India and China etc

I think in the long run it'll be a good thing, just because of the large increase in fabs..need more companies doing it though, just to create some form of competition..shame uk dont get a bit more proactive and build fabs also (thery offer bugger all incentives)...tsmc building a fab in europe also under new company name ESMC after €920 million sub by european comission (European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) which will be complete in 2027..will be for manufacturing and car wafer, but frees up space elsewhere..all helps

Not disagreeing with most of this, but surely there's some benefit to having on-shore chip production, even if it's difficult to procure the raw materials?

Could we get two capitals at the start of those sentences please Craig?

Other than that it’s spot on :)

and I think Russia is selling more oil n gas to the far east and making more money than they did to selling to Europe, what did they think, that Russia would become bankrupt without Europes money

One thing for sure I bet they have more 5090s than we have.

Yes Sir,

Appologies , but please don't ask me to check my spelling or grammar....I'm a v. poor typer. If you make me do that, I'll turn into Baldrick and start mumbling to myself in a corner somewhere

Could be worse. An Astral 5090 near me was caught lurking by a playground. Don't ask... The situation is clearly escalating at a rapid pace.
One round here was caught disguising itself as a school. Plus I hear some of them can make your keyboard emit a chemical that makes you more suggestible - and smell of hammers.
