NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Excellent. This is the one I went for. Currently position 15 now (down 1). Now just gotta hope I have all my ROPs :D
Judging from current pricing, you will be paying signiicantly more than (for example) a Zotac... and getting the same performance as a Zotac.

What do you mean judging by current pricing? I paid what I paid (£2.5k) on the 30th and I’m good with that.

Didn’t really want a Zotac mainly as it was a cheaper model and therefore likely to have more demand. More demand = longer queue and my 3080 is still begging for mercy.

It was between an ASUS TUF, MSI Suprim or Gigabyte Aorus for me. Essentially they’re all 5090s so performance is of course going to be very similar so it comes down to other things such as heat, noise and wait time.

I'd argue these three metrics (as well as maybe aesthetics) are the only ones that even matter these days. Every AIB is almost identical in performance and RMA/customer service.

Don't worry what others say.... That LCD screen on the Auros master is well worth the bucks $$$
I didn’t even realise it was there till that vid :D. Now feeling very smug about my eventual choice. Thing is mahoosive though glad to see something decent included to prop it up as well. Seems like this model is starting to filter through. Think there was a drop on another site albeit > £3k. Hoping for >= 15 units in their first delivery where I ordered.

Try shopping around. They came in much higher when they eventually responded a few days ago. Take into account I sent the web ticket in a good while before launch.

By the time it takes them to get back to you via “web ticket” you are better off waiting for the 6000 series.
Try shopping around for which card though?

Zotac I think is what they quoted me for.

I also want them to build it and have bought computers from OCUK before so preferably I'd stay with them.

Not card. Full system.

I’ve also had systems built by them in the past but my system came in much cheaper for the exact same.

I think it’s the 5090 that’s doing it, they are pushing the price up.

I'm not 100% convinced this is right.

If a shop explicitly tells you a "store policy" like "no returns or refunds" for certain items like display items or returned items or whatever, then you agree to that policy when you enter into the contract by buying it.

Vast majority of shops don't try shady things like this but for those that do I think they may get away with it in some cases. It's a dodgy area.

Like I said, I'm not sure on this so very happy to be advised if wrong.
a shop can do that if you go into the shop physically and purchase..online purchases have additional protection, and a shop can write what they want but they have to abide by uk laws...for online purchases, whatever they write is non enforceble

I should also put link below. guessing op got away with winning as even though custon item he bought, wasn't as adveertised quality so could come under faulty...rergardless..there's a lot of protection for buying online or over the phone..ie away from physical store so you can't see the merchandise you're buying

and if you're the business selling

paragraph in it about store policy for returns, ie setting up your own policy

You cannot impose these conditions where the consumer has a legal right to return goods. Where you state anything about your returns policy or guarantee, you must ensure that this does not mislead consumers about their legal rights. It is therefore good practice to state this explicitly - for example, 'This policy is offered in addition to your legal rights'.

Something that really urks me about the 5070ti benchmarks/reviews and gameplay tests online on youtube etc..

All of them seem to be pairing it with a Ryzen 7 9800x3d or similar high end CPU.

I mean that makes sense for 5090 or 5080 maybe.. and I get having the fastest CPU will show the graphics card running at its best.. But in real world scenarios, most people buying a 5070ti are likely upgrading from NVIDIA 2xxx, 3xxx, amd 5xxx and 6xxx and are most likely on 11th-13th gen intel or ryzen 5xxx or 7xxx at best.

Kind of annoying to dig up a scenario on how it may run with a more modest CPU

Outside of a few titles that rely heavily on the CPU, the differences are negligible if you're playing at 3440UW or 4k. I know you have people saying that the 9800x3D just feels smoother even at 4k, but this isn't really supported in the data i.e. 1% lows at 4k are much higher etc.

Although I'd narrow that down to Intel's 12th gen and AMD's X3D chips from the 5 series onwards. There is a bit of a gap when you go back to the generations before those.

im on a 5700x3D and i have a 5070ti coming, just unsure how close to these videos i should be expecting. Hopefully pretty close, i game at 1440p mostly, but would plug in my 4k144hz OLED TV in from time to time

As long as you're on a CPU that is 12500K class or above then all that matters is the GPU power when playing at 1440 or above. in the vast majority of games.

There are certainly a few games that will hammer the CPU as well. I find the Total War series very CPU-heavy and prone to bogging down on weaker CPUs, no matter what GPU you have, even at 4K.

5090 Astral running out of spec, taken from the Asus forum. It's so crazy to me that a device that has the ability to regulate its own power draw AND knows it's running out of spec in a way that could cause major hardware failure is just like "Hey, better be quick bucko, cable's about to melt. Do something about? Nah"

Hope you don't miss this OPTIONAL warning while gaming otherwise it's BBQ time.

Those games are specially doing cpu things vs UE5 for example doing gpu heavy things, so yes my point still stands as the "vast majority" of games are made up of the latter as evidenced by releases the last few years.
