NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Are you on an FE model or AIB?
What CPU are you using and I'm interested in your voltage curve too as I can't get exactly similar figures as you.

5090 Astral and 5950x3d. As for undervolt 0.895mv/2827Mhz +3000Mhz on the memory using the Afterburner modded profile

5090 laptop is a clown show; often losing to last year's 4090

That isn't what the video you are linking says - they are comparing a lower spec CPU and 135 watt 5090 against laptops with gaming CPUs and a range of 4090 wattages all but one of which is much higher than the 5090 wattage.

Hey show he 4090 laptop at different wattages though and it shows the 5090 sometimes losing at the same wattages though even at 4k

What's your solution? Interested to know.

Now I got the GPU installed and the thermocouple is on top of the plug held by some insulation tape and a small cable tie.

Is there more than a handful of folks who managed to get a 5000 series to warrant such a thread?
Think most here have had at least 1. Just realised Im on my 4th  but highly likely to stick now with the Astral LC. Solid build, cool, quite, overclocks well, minimal coil whine and only when benchmarking.

Anyone else got high idle clocks/power on theri 5090. Mine is alminmum 0.844Mv and over 2.400Mhz. No apps using GPU, in taks manager etc. Tried changing from prefer maximum performace to Normal in driver.

Watched a Youtube video before and the guys 5090was idling at 0.8Mv and under 200Mhz which I assume is normal.

Try starting windows in safe mode and seeing if it still happens. If it looks normal in safe mode, that suggests it’s a software / driver issue IMO.

What it shows is that typical consumer buying a gaming laptop and not having any idea about performance being so very dependant on wattage will be shafted - they will pay more for 5090 and will get less for it. Though, this isn't new in laptop's world, sadly.

No increase from 175w from last gen meant it was always going to be a non-starter. Quite shocked that there is even a 135w 5090 laptop.

Reckon my Legion 175w 4080 could keep up with that :D

It's the same with all laptops which contain discrete GPUs.

My laptop has a 4060 but it's not a gaming laptop, it's limited to something like 35w, while gaming 4060 laptops can have up to 100w or more.
If consumers go in blind and just look at the card, they'll think all 4060 laptops are the same

Have you guys noticed the low wattage while playing AC: Shadows?

With a 5090, Performance is in line with the reviews and youtube videos, but I'm surprised the card struggles to draw more than 400w (even 4k native).

The 5090 is a warm beast compared to the 5080.

What OC have you guys got out of yours? I’m on +270 core ~ 3k and 1K memory.

Is that a straight overclock? That's so 2000s :P

Undervolt is the way to go. I have my Vanguard at 0.91, 2932 Mhz, +2000Memory. Gets to 15250 in Steel Nomad and about 460w in games.
With this voltage, I haven't seen the vanguard above 62 while benchmarking and above 55 in games.

Had a FE previously and I had a slightly lower undervolt (the one used for the Reddit guide, which I made by the way).
