NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

I'm kinda tempted to get the RTX 5090 AORUS MASTER, does anyone in here have one, or any of the other Gigabyte RTX 50 cards in a vertical orientation? Is the thermal putty/gel leaking as bad as some online reports?

I have thermal putty (Fehonda LTP81) on a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 7900 XTX in a vertical config and that's been running fine for months without any leakage.

I have had an Aorus Waterforce vertical for about 8 weeks. Just checked again and no issues. Might have been an earlier batch?

It's a shame Gigabyte is using thermal putty optimised for dispensing and not long-term reliability.

Gigabyte's official explanation is it was an early batch, but multiple users on Reddit have claimed it's still an issue.

I really like the look of the RTX 5090 AORUS MASTER, so even if the putty did leak, I'm not totally opposed to the idea of disassembling the card and putting some better putty on, but for £2499, I really shouldn't have to.

A lot of Reddit can be 'look at me/give me attention'.
I'd trust views on this formal first from regular contributors.

This is also true, there can be a lot of great stuff on Reddit, but also a lot of users who are clearly out for attention or just outright user error.

They made 8GB versions with same name for the sake of trickery that can be utilised by system integrator outlets to sell them to people who aren't PC savvy or just not being carefully with their purchase to ensure it isn't the 8GB version. What really bothers me about this though, is how these landfill-wares limit what game developers have to optimise for. If GPU brands begun selling only at or above 16GB then eventually these low VRAM GPUs would die out and we could see much quicker graphics development in games.

New drivers out... lets see if they are more stable!

I have an Asus Astral and it runs hot and its concerning. I use https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/s/0ud18bC2R8 to get to grips with this GPU but when playing games, its a lot better than stock, but still its cooking. Im concerned over my other components as the M.2 next to it gets to 61 degrees when playing a game. I am now looking at a different case but i didnt need to with the 4090. I am also worried about the 9800x3d going pop. Sometime having top components is not worth the trouble.

How hot is hot?

Does the m.2 next to it have a heatsink on?

What's 'hot' though. Remember these chips are hotter. Astral should keep it under 80 Celsius. Thermal throttling starts at 90.
M.2, mine sit at that, maybe 63, again, they run hot but we'll within spec and no throttling.
What is your CPU temps? Are you on air cooler for that as well? It will be higher if its using the hot air from the gpu.
Is your undervolt keeping the power to around 500 watts?
Airflow will help reduce temps, as would cpu aio. But try not to worry, it certainly runs hotter than 4090.

My Astral runs at 55c-65c when gaming and uses around 300-380w (except in cyberpunk where it uses around 450w). My NVME PCIE 5 drive next to it runs at 65c-80c although they do run much hotter than PCIE 4, and my air cooled 9950X3D runs at 70c.
I suspect your issue is your case airflow/size/case fans/fan placement.

That’s pretty hot for the NVME. I have a Crucial T705 4tb never goes over 55c in any scenario. Beneath it is a 5090 FE. It is in an x870e Nova board.

I think 65 to 80 is much too high. My games are stored on an m.2 elsewhere on my motherboard. They remain stable at 35 deg.when running any game. The windows drive sits next to this air fryer of a gpu which creates the problem .Nvidia purposely removed the hot spot on the 50 series do dishuise this issue as they are scary hot. My case is a corsair 5000x with a 360 rad on the cpu...this rad is like a hot air blower. It won't be long until some ones pc burns up with these cards
