NVidia Shield TV

Never really understood this, do you have to have a PC so you stream to the TV and play that way or can you literally just have as a stand alone thing and play games through your steam library albeit streamed?
I read the official site but still couldn't work it out.

I'm tempted to pick one of these up purely as an emulation station. What is PlayStation emulation like on this? I'd love to be able to use ePSXe on it with all the graphic filters enabled :D. Anyone willing to test it out for me? :).

Also, Dolphin GameCube emulation seems possible :D :D.

Yep - been using NES, SNES, Mega Drive and MAME Roms on there with the controller with no problems whatsover.

:D

Can i run apps from a portable/USB drive on these or it better to just pay the extra for the pro version to save messing about adding storage down the line?

Did they push the release date back a few days or i did i just misread it the other day, i'm sure it said the 3rd October.

Well I use fpse and you can run games at high res with all filters on which make ps1 games look insanely good and more modern.

I'm in the process of completing a youtube video review of this, if anyones interested I'll leave a link later.

Amazing piece of hardware.

Have always wanted to stream pc games to my tv, usually move the whole case down to the tv.

So how does this work? Do you have to load the game up manually on the pc upstairs and then go to the tv to play or does this unit let you take full control of the pc from the other room? What happens if big picture bugs out or crashes? Found that happens quite a bit, can you sort it without returning back to the pc itself

I was stung with the (now redundant) Onlive microconsole so I'm really on the fence with this. Onlive was a great idea that just didn't take off which was a shame.Hopefully this new Nvidia effort can go up against the big boys in the console market.
Dolphin emulation certainly sounds interesting to me :)

Yeh can't wait for the UK release. Perfect for streaming my PC games. Anyone know if you can use the XBone controllers with it?

You can't use xbox one controllers, but the pad you get is very good indeed, amazing battery like.

sort of a hybrid of a ps4 and xbox one pad.

1080P, 60FPS max res, graphics settings is based on how good your card is.

Oh ok! The review i read earlier was wring there then! Almost put me off it! So streMing from steam it will be 1080p if thats how its set on my pc if that makes sense

From the review: "GameStream will be familiar to owners of the Shield gaming device or Shield Tablet, which offers the ability to stream and play games stored on a remote PC in 720p; as long as the PC has a suitable Nvidia graphics card and matches other minimum specifications detailed by the firm."

Not heard of the site before so can imagine it being wrong :D! Unless GameStream is something else?

You can actually go into the PC settings of the game to make sure it is 1080P, it tends to default to 24hz if your PC is set to higher resolution for that game.

I would check with each game that it is running in full 1080p @ 60hz in the settings.

Playing mine today, marvellous. I've spent a fortune on getting a 4k PC so going back to 1080P hurt a little at first, then I forgot... makes me wonder if I wasted my money on my 4k setup.

EDIT: Better investment would have been a 4K TV instead of a 4K PC, I see now.

Not sure to get one of these or wait and see how the steam link fares as i only want to stream my games. Dont want to stream from the nvidia service or have any of the tv stuff as i have a fire tv for that. Not sure though, will have to be patient! We should see reviews for the link soon though as i remember if you ordered it early you get it in october
