Nvidia Updates GeForce Experience - Accounts and Passwords Now Mandatory

If they actually are storing stuff on the cloud then it's a necessary evil I guess. But if they leak any of our personal data and passwords, or start using our usage data to generate income I'll get extra stroppy.

It shouldn't be a requirement, but it's not the end of days unless they data mine you and step up a bombardment of junk mail imo-but I'm used to it as I've got plenty of the amazing Nv Shields in use.

Just to add, I had a problem(can't go into detail on what it was as I signed my life away when I acepted help.:D) few months ago with Nv hardware, posted it on geforce forum and to my shock, Manuel was on it like Barry Allen out the traps so it's not all doom n gloom, it could be beneficial for some.

Nice Flash reference.

Means the end of drivers on Guru3d. Actually what will happen is one person will download the drivers then put them somewhere everyone else can download them without GFE.
next up selling games via GFE......
Is this the new look GFE Beta V3. that I was offered to download and didnt ???

if you read this http://www.geforce.co.uk/geforce-experience/faq it suggests what some of us me included think of "performance optimisations" its the game settings GFE prompts you that have been updated every now again.

Q: GeForce Experience cannot optimize some of my games. Why?
A: Some games install the configuration file along with the game under Program Files. These files cannot be modified by external programs like GeForce Experience.

I just dont understand the thinking behind this. How does this benefit Nvidia?

I think they are doing it to actually help(in their eyes) as how many people will have cards that do not update the drivers, by installing GFE it will help these people in theory.

The bit I don't get is not allowing people who just want the driver the opportunity to just download it.

How does it get people to update their drivers, though? Email notifications, I guess? Geforce Experience already has pop-up notifications.

If anything, it just seems like one more account on top of the dozens of others people have online that all require passwords, many of which you wont remember because they have different password requirements and whatnot. Which I think would only dissuade people from logging and updating. Nothing made updating a driver easier than just clicking on the pop up and then have it start installing right away.

Good point I forgot it notifies you, maybe just another way of harvesting email addresses to spam GeForce guff too.

I like to use ShadowPlay or Twitch occasionally. Honestly don't see the issue. There are less services than I can count on one hand that come to mind that do not require registration.

I guess Guru will now just be linking to the log in/register page for you to get them when they are out, and if they just get posted up in the forums by members, the mods will probably have to remove them, can see that happening on here as well.

A new Game Ready driver has been released today and is available via the website, so seems like this is a non-issue for those that didn't use GFE in the first place.

This is feeling like we need to make a 'OcUK Reacts' video ;)

I actually think it is very poor form to require login just to use the features though. Hopefully they won't delay the latest drivers by deliberately not putting them up, and trying to get people to use GFE to get them first.

I do think the process of getting and installing new drivers could be made a lot smoother though.
