Nvidia Updates GeForce Experience - Accounts and Passwords Now Mandatory

I actually signed up over a year ago anyway, as Nvidia kindly sent all Titan X Owners a Witcher 3 key, and since I had two GPU's I was able to sell them both (I already owned the game) for about £50 profit.

I'll happily log in as they are giving away game keys and even 1080 GTX's.

wait, what? gonna go and register right now!

Ask yourself why they are doing this.

who cares?

Am I the only one here who has several personas to use with any system which requires registration? None of you here heard of protecting your identity, using temporary email aliases and the likes? They're welcome to sell my "Mr. John Smith, born on the the 1-st of Jan, 1961" information until they go blue in the face.

They assume you fake that stuff. They don't rely on the user being truthful.

They use cookies, IP addresses, geo-loc, habits, analytics, behaviourisms etc etc to determine your "identity". Unless you actively block all known data mining and tracking stuff you will be catalogued and indexed. And even then that's only the stuff known about publicly. It's way more sophisticated than you think.

I do block everything indeed. Call me paranoid, but I like it that way.

Just found out about this when I went to check for new drivers.

Bye GFE. Your only saving grace is that you weren't intrusive about needing updated.

Just another reason to add to the pile for me to never buy Nvidia again.
I'd honestly rather not game than buy Nvidia at this point.

I installed it when I first got my 1070 to see what it was about and it did not stay long on my system :p

Basically it is like AMD's raptr which I never bothered with either. Just a tool for noobs who cannot tweak things themselves and need help. No good for us enthusiasts. Unless you make use of shadowplay or whatever it is called, then I do not see the point of installing it myself :)

This, things like this should never be forced upon the user.
Should always be optional installation.

Unfortunately I do use ShadowPlay - but none of the rest of the stuff which is mostly just crud on my system - having to login is an extra PITA but I hate the messy interface and 80s era overlay design in 3.0 and have some issues with several game (some of them already had known issues with other overlays) where the overlay causes reliability issues with key presses.

I've had to take drastic measures to remove all the background processes and stuff from the nVidia drivers (it has a circular malware like functionality that enforces updates to 3.0) so as to stick with the last version of 2.0 on newer drivers - hate nVidia for that.

I don't use any of that rubbish anyway and only install the actual gpu driver and physx driver so it won't affect me. Crap move by Nvidia though.

I just dont understand the thinking behind this. How does this benefit Nvidia?

In the same way phone apps make money off you, by collecting details from you and selling them to marketing firms, social media accounts attached to your email, friends and family attached to those social media accounts, perhaps even your browsing habits.

I never install this bloatware. Still bugs me that I have to download it every time, customise the setup to prevent installation and then disable the unauthorised backend process which stills gets installed.

Once is bad enough; but every time I install a driver update, really? :(

You reckon overclockers sell our details then?

Updated GFE today and now it asks for my Google account...

But one positive... it actually recognises Monster Hunter Online as a game! Even though I never play it cos it's all in Chinese and I don't have the time for translating my way through it with Google translate.

To those put off from buying Nvidia or put off from installing GFE... I understand where you're coming from and I'd normally be with you. Me? I just signed in easy with my Google account, I've already sold my soul to them so why not throw it around a bit more?
