I must have been lucky... never had a GPU that whined - and I've heard peoples' that do so its not that I can't hear it :D

Sorry? They're screen shots from Cryengine 2 (The same engine Crysis uses?).

They have the same demands on hardware as Crysis itself.

Oh I see, that's okay then. Did a double take when looking at those shots earlier, thought that we'd need something super powerful, didn't realise it uses the same engine.

How much you enjoyed crysis is utterly irrelevant and has no baring at all on how good its graphics are.

Crysis being a good game is subjective, the quality of its graphics however isn't.

It's the most advanced and realistic looking game engine currently used for games you can buy now, that's fact, whether you PREFER (subjective) the way another game looks how ever doesn't actually mean crysis doesn't have the most realistic graphics going.
Those screenshots look amazing but bear no relation to what Crysis actually looks like in-game. The engine was a disaster. It doesn't matter what quality renders it can produce if it can't manage them in realtime on hardware released years after the game itself. You can't hold up Crysis as an example of what PCs can do when no PCs can run it properly; the engine was poorly written and doesn't scale at all well. To me I was FAR more impressed with what games like Far Cry 2, Assassin's Creed, Mirror's Edge and Team Fortress 2 did with their respective engines - all games that excel on PC but also run well on consoles.

I can "sense" the static coming from a CRT screen, I can tell if one is on even if I'm in another room and the TV is muted.
It's far more likely you're hearing the high pitched whine emitted by CRT monitors. I'm quite sensitive to it, when my parents couldn't understand how I could tell their TV was on (when muted) from the other side of the house.

PeECeEZ RooLzZ.. CoNSoLeZ SuX!! :D

Seriously though, how can anyone play FPS games with a gamepad?

Also, after playing games with a high end PC, I personally could never go back to owning a console, my little brother has PS3, and several of my mates own 360's, and everytime I have played a game on the console that I also have for PC, the graphics look extremely shoddy in comparison, and they dont run as smooth as they do on the PC neither.

I guess if consoles were all you had ever gamed on this wouldn't be an issue, but I personally have spoiled myself with PC gaming, that consoles just dont do it for me at all...

Just my 2p. :)

+1

I went from a 17" monitor with a 9600GT which I thought was fantastic for a couple of years.
Then I saw my mates HD screen and had to have one. So I got a 22" HD and a GTX 280, which I think is brilliant.
I've played all the latest high graphically demanding games on both set-ups. And had to adjust the settings accordingly for playability.

My point is - the poor chap who started this thread needs to do a bit of research, ask the right questions and give relevant information. Thats what I did and gamed on old and new rigs in bliss.

BTW Windows 7 (in my experiance) was a breeze to install and got all my games and apps running without any issues ATALL. Hopefully this will improve the PC gaming experience when it comes to problems.

My two penneth.

So you have basically said that both are rubbish ?

Do a search, nearly everyone gets capacitator whine. my 260 does it, my 4870 didnt, same corsair PSU...so how is it down to my PSU ?

Nvidia +HDTV = 1" thick black bar on left of screen. Ati did have that problem...2 years ago and promtly fixed it. Nvidia emailed me and told me and I quote "get another monitor then".

My first 4870 did, I had to RMA it and then my second one did the same. My 5870 also does it although they aren't as loud as the 8800GTX was.

you can get them to run on windows7 i think

get a 360 and soul calibur 4 its miles better then tekken ;)

Take it you beat all the weapons? dam they where hard.
the first time i finished it i think i was lvl 35ish and it had token me 3ish hours to beat sephiroth lol

Haha the bowed to me in that save! Previously they were rock though.

Spoiler?

Need that underwater materia to stop the timer. Then use knights of the round and mimic away. You can just leave the game playing usually haha!

I've had a few GPUs that whine from both manufacturers. Never bothered me a whole lot, and now that I am aircooled again I can't really hear any whine. It's most noticeable if you're underwater or passive.

Ah the 'Crysis is unoptimised' schtick is being brought out again by somebody butthurt their PC cannot run it at ludicrous resolutions. I love how some PC gamers cry like babies when games are not designed for cutting edge tech or have no future proofing, and then do exactly the same when developers listen to their whining. ;)

Crysis is still head and shoulders above everything else released (subjective arguments over 'art style' aside). Impressive for a supposedly unoptimised engine.

So having used ATI for a number of years I have suddenly bought a bad card from what the forum says - 9500GT / 1GB. One of the best games/simms I have ever played was FS2004 but you know what really ****** me off? ... This attitude that ATI xxxx makes a better card. Why? The PS3 can deliver more for less, so where are you coming from? So im running a 9500GT @ 650MHz - probably a fraction of most of the card's on here, but *if* your are a gamer, then you will use the PS3 ! Purchase the best card and you know what? - 6 months time there will be a better card! Too much attitude on this forum tbf.

without going through the rest of this thread i wanted to just reply to the OP.

Never had a 9500GT so can't comment even though i'm told from a friend it wasn't the best and he got rid after a month.

As for the
*if* your are a gamer, then you will use the PS3
comment i think you are completely wrong, in my opinion.

I have a gaming PC and a PS3. Some say it's over kill as i only have 4 games for the PS3. Fifa 09, 10, PES2009 & mega drive collection. The last two are for the kids to play and i play online Fifa.

But to really enjoy FPS games you need a PC. Nothing better than mouse control and getting your fingers all bent double tring to run/hide/crouch whilst being shot at. You just don't get that rush using a consol for those types of games.

For me it's best to have both :)

For the most part, yes it is rubbish, rubbish in the sense that you're trying to pass it off as fact. I have no doubt that it's your opinion (which you're perfectly entitled to) and that you have experienced this, it is however not true as a representation of ATi and nVida at all.

Also, you need to realise that your personal experience doesn't represent everyone.

As I've said, I've had nVidia cards that didn't whine/squeal.

Nvidia +HDTV = 1" thick black bar on left of screen. Ati did have that problem...2 years ago and promtly fixed it. Nvidia emailed me and told me and I quote "get another monitor then".

 and with that, you're actually still willing to give them your money?

Do you have "mug" stamped on your forehead?

As far as I know, they're playable, they're just using some clever tricks and configurations/optimisations to get it like that.

It's far more likely you're hearing the high pitched whine emitted by CRT monitors. I'm quite sensitive to it, when my parents couldn't understand how I could tell their TV was on (when muted) from the other side of the house.

I would say "hear" but I can still "feel" if I've got earphones on for example or if I put my fingers in my ears.

No, im not, but I have bigger things to worry about than gfx cards at the moment, for example I need IPS panels for photography and the quality of them at this time is poor so many problems with Dells. Nvidias will run normal screens perfectly.

If i sell my 260 for £90 now what can i buy that has the same performance...nothing.
