nx8600GTS MSI 512mb

2900pro or 2nd hand 8800gts 320mb if you can't see past your ati blinkers. Why don't you try it, if you don't like it sell it. As to be honest, I have not got a clue why you bought the 8500gt unless you were broke at the time.

just bought a sli MB from much cheaper than ocuk

It would be in your best intrest to read the rules. you cant even display competitor names.

Anyway, just because you have an SLi mobo dont mean you NEED 2 graphics cards, I have an SLi mobo, not a very good one at that but I am running one ATi card in it.

and you tell me you never had any problems with drivers, running games, games crashing or anything?

please see the rules about quoting a post with a competitor link... your speading it more

I havent had any massive problems with drivers, just generall performance, but its only my PC everyone elses with a 2900 is fine.

Go take a look.. I dont.

Its not about my PC, its not the card.

Just get an 8800GTS 640 second hand for a 2900Pro, both value for money at the price, I paid 240 for my card, 2900Pro's are 170, big difference.

Hold on.. You want two 8600's for SLI... your approaching 8800GTX money there, and a single 8800GTX will easily be faster than SLI'ed 8600's

BTW, you'll get yourself banned from the forums by putting up clearly readable 'masked' images of competitors names, and then saying how much cheaper they are.

Price isnt the only thing with suppliers anyway. OcUK get stock before most other suppliers on 'cutting edge' hardware, sure Purpleshirt land is expensive, but OcUK is only marginally higher than the cheapest around.

right, if you can stretch your budget to 170 then get a 8800gts 320mb.

but if you need to save the cash and are desperate to run sli then the 8600gt.
the 8600gt is around twice the speed of your 8500, and the best thing about the 8600gt is that it can be had for 60quid.
8600gt also has only 43w of power consumption, so i don't even need to ask you what power supply you are using.

get a single 8600gt first, then if you feel you really want to run in sli then get another one.
the trick with the 8600gt is to get the absolute cheapest one you can find. cheapest one iv found is 60quid. you may be able to find it cheaper if you look around.

don;t bother with a 8600gtS since most GT' cards can clock up quite well on the core and its not worth paying the extra for a gts over a regular gt.

can do, although if u need a temporary fix sell the 8500gt you have, lots of people will be after it for media center use and hd decoding, and get yourself a cheap 60 quid 8600gt.

f it... ill wait till i get my inheritance money in november and get the best i can get in sli...

Why. SLI on midrange cards is less performance for your money than just sticking a single high end card in. Its also prone to problems, if a card fails under warrenty, then you have to try and get the exact replacement... If that cards no longer made, you might get a substitute, then your stuck with two incompatible mid range cards and lousy performance.

SLI's also a lot more likely to have driver glitches from game to game.

SLI's performance also vary's greatly from game to game anyway. So while in some games a mid range SLI setup might get close to a single 8800GTX, in other games it will be miles behind.

Two £150 graphics cards, or one 8800GTX (OcUK branded) for £299.61 inc VAT.

IMHO the only time SLI's worth the bother is if your already running 8800GTX (or ultra) and still want even more speed. It's never been about getting high end performance from mid range, and I dont believe SLI offers good cost : performance ratio in any situation.

JoeCooper, seem slike you made up your mind, so not sure why you asking for advice here. People told you the card not worth it for the price. a 320MB GTS is not much more.

And honestly, if you are going to get 2, which will be £300, then you may as well get a 8800GTX.

SLI is really just a waste for those who simply don't have money to blow - you, in this case.

Don't quite understand the logic of the post i must admit. Asks for advice, then ignores or slates it all.

Why the need for sli? e-penis? Just get one decent card...
