Just wondering now Orange and Vodafone are getting the iphone what the chances of speeds increasing as their service might stop be so oversubcribed with the other two now sharing the market?

The coverage is still going to be poor but it'd nice to see a speed boost where you can get 3G, starting to get bit annoyed with how pap it can be, living in london doesn't help as I'm sure they're way oversubed here. Whenever I go to Cardiff or Glos it's not so bad.

Also got over 12 months left on my contract so jumping ship isn't an option :(

I usually get 1700-1800kbps on the 3G here.

That's amazing considering my ADSL tops out at 2048kbps :o

I lost my 3G capable phone and have gone back to one that can only handle EDGE.

I swear it feels faster than 3G used to, that's how bad it was.

Lucky if I get 20kb/s most of the time, ridiculous really considering when I went on roaming in Luthuania was getting pretty much constant 300kb/s, our networks should take a leaf out of their books :) even if it is a smaller less populated country!

Just tested it now..

Now I know my ADSL sucks, but I get great 3G here :p

I'd rather they spend the money on expanding their 3g service area

They are. O2 are spending millions in a joint effort with Vodafone to improve network coverage (2010)

How do you check? Just run speedtest website via the phone?

Speedtest.net have an iPhone app. You can visit the site in mobile Safari but you'll be redirected to the appstore anyway.

I hope this O2-Vodafone thing happens soon. O2 is good in my hometown but rubbish at Uni; Vodafone is great in my Uni town but rubbish at home. Mast-sharing would be really good for me, especially if it improved their 3G capacity a bit.

I can stand in my office which is pretty much next to the gherkin in london with my iphone 3gs (3g turned on) and cannot call anyone.....

I basically have to resort to leaving 3g off to be able to get any constant signal in the square mile. It's pathetic. :(

I noticed last weekend when I was down by the Embankment that all the people who I was with were complaining that they had no signal in the pub on their iPhones. I checked mine and I had full strength but I realised this was because I'd switched off 3G just before I got on the tube.

I find anywhere along the river in central london has next to no 3G coverage, a mate told me this was due to national security reasons within the city and they block it but I find that hard to believe.

I've never got more than 120kbs. Seems nippy enough for the Ballymena, Jordanstown areas. It is annoying that signal reception is always low when you have a 3G connection, but yet, if I only get GPRS, chances are the phone signal is at full bars. Why is this?
