O2 Dropping out recently?

I get it occasionally where downloads continue, but I can't open webpages (?DNS issue?). Then after 5 minutes its back to normal. Nearly always happens at peak times aswell.

O2 are aware of this and if you ring them and get an adviser who knows about it he will tell you to switch to open DNS or there is another method to use their backup DNS server.

People seem to be having two problems one of DNS and another disconnections, I've noticed if I let my router connect in the morning when the SNR is above 6.5dB it will lose connection in the evening as SNR will drop below 2dB. The drop in SNR seems greater than it was a few months ago, I'd like to try my other router but can't work out how to set it up on O2.

I get both problems too.

Sometimes there's a DNS issue where all open websites continue to work but new ones cannot be resolved. Will try OpenDNS to see if it fixes the issue but i've seen posts that it still occurs and may be router related rather than o2's DNS servers.

Secondly, there's the issue where the connection drops entirely and the router resets itself.

Are you by chance still using the old Be dns servers?

Hi All,

As you know, BE has implemented new DNS server to it's system, which are:

87.194.255.155 &
87.194.255.154

If you have any other DNS servers from this list:

87.194.0.50

87.194.0.51

87.194.0.52

87.194.0.66

87.194.0.67

Please change them to the new ones. You might experience some issues with the old ones in the future, as they will be used for other purposes. Please do not use them even for testing (You can test with Open DNS).

Kind regards,
Be Team

I've been getting the same problem as well recently. I've had an OpenReach engineer round (for the second time) today and hes messed around with some stuff at the exchange and checked the connection to my house, but if it starts happening again with the disconnections, etc i'm going to start pointing fingers at o2. They were excellent when i joined at the start of this year, but the consistency of the service seems to have deteriorated considerably of late. By the way im on the premium package (20mb/1.3mb).

Been loosing my connection every ten minutes this evening, nothing too remarkable in my stats though. Maybe too high a down Atten.

I wouldn't have thought it would be anything to do with your line/router as those stats look pretty solid to me for the uptime.

My connection just dropped again, so I ran a small ping test and confirmed it was (at least partially) a dns problem causing it. The ping also brought the connection back alive.

You might want to check the o2 forums, i think they have a new set of dns servers. I kept getting some websites timing out, whilst others were unaffected. The new dns server is 94.192.119.254. Changing to that solved my problem. I don't think the o2 router is automatically using the new ones.

As I said, have the people who are having issues switched to the new servers yet?

Zero data transferred is a bug in bes new firmware, like it crashing while bridged every 7-14 days :(

I'll give it a try tomorrow, there's only one dns server listed on my router anyway which seems a bit daft.

Well even though i've had 2 OpenReach engineers round to check my line over i'm still getting random moments where the router just cannot connect. When i check my line when it does this there is a huge amount of noise on the line, but when i disconnect the router from the socket and leave it a bit and then do a line test it seems fine. I've tried various filters and all of them do exactly the same so its not that.

Any ideas what it could be anyone?? Really getting fed up with it now to be honest and i'm just getting thrown backwards and forwards between O2 and BT  If it doesn't get fixed by the time my contract ends in March its Virgin time i think.
