O2 Giving out phone numbers?

Does it here on Tesco / O2.

same here

And the same here on the same network as well :(

I can't believe no one has asked.

Who cares/why does it matter?

Let me put it like this - would you add your own personal mobile phone number to your OcUk forum signature?

Because that's pretty much what's happening, it means your number is being sent to any website you visit and opens you up to be inundated with spam calls!

Number being sent out to every website.
Anyone can get it, I for one don't won't to be inundated with spam calls.
Not many people would public post phone number on a site.

would you post you full mobile number in the signature of overclockers, for example?

It's a bit different to openly showing it to it being available for those who want to find it and know the means of doing so.

I think it's a big who-har about nothing to be honest.

Pretty much, apart from it isn't. There's a big difference from publicly announcing your phone number for anyone to openly see to it being embedded in some website details.

It's openly shown to anyone with a website or advertising banners or anything else. It's easily mineable and easily gathered.
So although it is different to posting on here. It's not secure and it's not hard to get.

Usually such things are a hoo har, like the iPhone "tracking" but I don't agree with this. It's easily obtained.

Granted, and I see your point.

However, I'm sure you'll admit anyone with even a little skill "could potentially" retrieve and use your mobile number. I for one would prefer to try and keep my number private and not give any potential cold callers the chance of using my number amongst the others they've gleamed as a test bed for their sales calls!

I agree its not the biggest issue in the world, I just wonder how many people would be unhappy if they knew.

p.s - Sonea, I totally just stole your sig.. sorry...

Nokia dev forum has an entry regarding the http header from 2002..

This is a Nokia Gateway which is a network element. This is nothing to do with handsets, for example the Orange Nok gateway adds a header in for roaming profile enabled.

I'd imagine this is likely done for NAT routing or at least, was done at the start like this. MSISDNs, the technical version of your telephone number, have a very useful property for routing data/calls to the right place as you move between masts and in the old days this was used for a lot of items which networks don't really need them for.

Don't get me wrong, it's not excusable that they do this but I doubt it's being exploited currently.

If it's being inserted by the gateway and not the handset (Highly likely) changing browsers probably won't fix it. It will affect all O2 and MVMO customers who are on O2 (GG, Tesco, Kingston if they still have it).

Hmm, considering going to go in to o2 and complain about this next Wednesday when I'm in a decent suit...

Shows mine up. Stock Browser, O2, HTC Desire.

Thankfully my phone browsing is limited to OCUK, BBC and Facebook pretty much on my phone, but it isn't always...

I had been with T-Mobile for ages without any spam texts, as soon as they merged with Orange i would end up with one every week minimum.

Glad I'm with Three now.
