O2 internet?

Hello,

Twice now O2 have called me up and offered 20mb broadband (12mb more likely they say), phone + evening and weekend free calls to uk numbers...all for price of £22. There's already a BT line hooked up here so I won't have to pay BT/installation charges at all.

I am currently with Virgin with 10mb cable broadband, phone + weekend free calls for £27 a month.

O2's offer of course looks good on paper, but I've read some reviews and it seems once they have as a customer, they forget about you.

Most of those reviews are rather out dated, and it's not like virgin media are that great either (random speeds all the time, lag in games).

Anyone have had dealings with O2 lately? Around Nottingham perhaps?

I am going to call up Virgin media and tell them O2 are trying to steal me...let's see what Vm will offer to keep me :p (last time sky tried the same thing, VM knocked off £10 on the bill, still have that discount).

Thank you

I have personally found O2 customer service, across all services and business areas, to be better than most companies I have dealt with.

I was with O2 broadband for some time about 2 years ago and it was faultless.

Sounds like you'd still have to pay for BT line rental though, so that would increase the price if I read your package details right.

Have you looked at Samknows to see what's available at your exchange?
Last time I looked, BE were by far the best offering.

For that price he will have O2 Home phone included, no BT line rental needed.

Also Be is O2! He wouldn't get such a cheap deal going with the Be packages as they don't do phonelines under that brand name.

Be* and O2 are the same company, use the same equipment and lines but Be* offer you faster speeds and a few other extras. They also use different customer service representatives and are second to none. They really look after their members. Plus, I've found they'll always price beat O2 so it might be worth giving them a call to see what they can do.
(I sound like I work for them, but I'm in Glasgow and everyone knows that there we are all unemployed here).
That looks like a cracking deal, I'd phone Be though and ask if they'll price match that offer.

The speeds are the same, they are just marketed differently (O2 say 20mbps and Be say 24mbps for example). The only difference is the customer support. They won't be able to price beat the O2 offering because they don't offer a landline phone service.

Yes they do.
And Be* offer a lot more 'tweaking' on your line, as well as static IPs. They've price matched for me and my friends on the ADSL (haven't moved my line over yet) and I'm now paying approximately half of what there website asks for ;).
Also, they just gave me a fancy new N router. I've got a bit of a crush on Be*. Assume that Be* and 02 have the same (ie. none) fair usage policy, but may be worth double checking?

O2 now offer line rental, that's why I switched from be to 02, its exactly the same service if llu, 02 own be. If they've quoted him 12meg, then be won't be able offer higher speeds as the line length is the bottleneck. I went from be up to 24meg to 02 upto 16meg, my line can only cope with about 14meg, and so my speeds is exactly the same.

Just to note, Be*'s customer service has been nothing but excellent for me. Getting rDNS records set up would usually be a nightmare, but not with Be*.

I pay 02 twenty quid a month for line and internet, that's with a discount as they knock some off of you also have a mobile with 02.

heres the deal theoretically cable is faster than adsl.
in real life its often a different story entirely and whilst i can only speak for the Oxford/Abingdon area id imagine its the same for a lot of the UK.

I was on virgin for around 3 years, and finally had enough of the 1.2MB download speeds and constant speedcapping.

so i relectunately went O2 and has proved to the best decision iv ever made regarding internet. Yes you need a line from BT (£13) but as i was already an O2 customer they slashed my 20mb internet to £5 for 6 months with it being £10 after that - bargin.

and it works amazingly well, 1.7MB download speed (faster than i ever got with virgin), no speedcapping and great customer service...seriously i called them up the other day as i was getting a few disconnects and they sorted it out straight away and shock horror actually knew what they were talking about!

naturally a lot does depend on the exchange distance , but still O2 should not be scoffed at, especially since virgin are all talk and little show and really there for peoples e-pee to sprout how they have a rather ineffective 50mb+ connection.

O2 now do line rental, tje basic line only is nine pound someting a month, cheaper than bt.

Only ever heard good things about Be/O2 customer service. Haven't Be/O2 introducted a fair usage/traffic shaping policy recently though?

I'm on O2 Access broadband...The initial setup was terrible (They would not believe me when I said the line fault was at the exchange as everything else is fine...Low and behold, the cable was unplugged at the xchange)

But since then...the connection has been pretty decent...and its with BT Open reach really as opposed to O2.

Although the internet is 'unlimited'...you can be capped for excessive use
