O2 issues

yea it just went laggy and i pinged and they were all fine? What could be tyhe problem, should i just go removing all the ring wires? get a new faceplate? ask them to increase the SN margin? so confused

it actually reset the router

A warm reset shouldn't have anything to do with your line. Is this a Wireless Box II? If so I'd try disabling UPNP in favour of manual port forwarding or disable the wireless interface, at least temporarily for testing.

I find I can't get any long gaming sessions in without one or the other disabled. Could be that the speed test was having a similar effect. It seems that the little box just doesn't have enough resources to keep all of those services on together.

yea its the wireless 2 box if thats the white one. its an 8mb package, i think i've got an apple airport extreme but duno if thats adsl2

update: i've removed the ringwire, and the gains were huge, this is now the stats in the master socket (not in test port). How do i go about reducing latency though? or is that a stupid question? because i always lag out of games, could this be a wireless issue?

If your router's disconnecting or restarting itself or whatever, that's what you should be dealing with. It's probably what's causing you to "lag out" too.

How do i fix that though? is that just because its a poor router? also with ringwire removed these are the stats:

Uptime: 0 days, 0:24:13
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,287 / 8,187
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.5 / 42.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 7.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 82 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 20 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 20 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 4 / 23,686
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 4 / 32
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 60,806 / 15

bandwidth much better compared to first post.

Fixing it would typically mean replacing it, though you could try phoning O2 and seeing if they'll send you a new (which probably won't actually be new) one.

You've gained an entire 1kbps on the last time though. What you're showing is that your extension wiring isn't good.

So i should try disabling upnp and see if that improves things? what do i do if it doesnt?

try it, it won't hurt but you might have to setup port forwarding for your games or w/e.

Tbh I'd see if O2 are willing to send you out a wireless box 3. Getting another 2 won't fix the problem with the box rebooting.

Just try what I said and see if you observe any improvement.

will do, so just to clarify its not the wireless signal from the router, its the ability of the router coping with the demanding connections?

In my experience if I have upnp, wireless turned on and try to play either bf2 or tf2 (those are the only ones I play atm) the box will reboot itself after around 20 mins. If I turn off either upnp or wireless then it doesn't reboot.

So make of that what you will but it certainly seems like either the processor or ram, or both, runs out of resource when all multiple services (for want of a better word) are in use.

i tried turning off upnp and the whole thing jus died, couldnt go on msn or anything, pages wouldnt load, but i turned it back on and its still pretty awful. Im starting to think its either a poor router or something on o2's side.

I don't think it should have done that tbh. Certainly doesn't here.

What about just disabling wireless?

pretty sure its the router, anyway its being ok now, rung o2 they said if it keeps dropping they'll send me a new router, but i'm gonna buy a new router anyway. Any recommendations on an adsl2+ max price is £40 excluding delivery.

The o2 guy said a lot of the exchanges were down yesterday, maybe that was why. Cant really disable wireless because im on of 3 using it wirelessly.

Netgear DG 834 GT with the Broadcom chipset a necessity if one is to take full advantage of o2/Be's BB I paid just a couple of £ at auction and unlocked it from Sky which is all freely available. I don't use mine its just for testing purposes (BT charge foldin money if its not their lines) I use the Thompson 780wl as I use voip for my phone calls - again with Broadcom chipset
